Why was Wayne Morgan fired?

Why? Should I ask Hawk fans, too? Or maybe Syracuse fans? Why can't we just ask ISU fans?

Because I was refering to a comment on how Morgan was a good college basketball coach and Morgan was head coach at Long Beach State coming to ISU.

You would be incorrect. If we have another year next year like we do this year, Greg is gone. We have some big boosters in the waiting that are waiting for a good coach before they donate large money. We would do a one year buyout easy.
Yeah, and there is "good news", too. :jimlad:

I'll say, not in this economy. And we have a good coach.

Besides which, I see no reason to expect us to have "another year like this year". Unless, of course, CB goes pro--and someone else gets hurt.

because he was a horrible coach. here's a question, even though he recruited great players why did we suck his last year here? we were clearly talented enough to get into the NIT at least, but no we couldn't even do that. watching games that year was the most frustrating thing in the world.

So based on your logic, McDermott is even worse. He recruits well and we are way way way worse than Morgan's last year. Morgan did a pretty solid job, but it was that scandal that got him fired. He got us to the NCAA tourney a bunch of times. How many times has McDermott done that for us?

Is anyone else here sick of also hearing "give McDermott another year" bs? He's been given three years already and hasn't turned it around. Keno Davis is in his first year at Providence (pretty much the exact same thing as McDermott switching from the MVC to a powerhouse conference) and they're doing pretty well when they were worse than us last year. So for many of you who think McDermott needs another year, you are pretty crazy. He's had two years more than Keno Davis and Keno is already way ahead of him. If you want more than one example: Purdue. This is Painter's third year coaching at Purdue and they are making a run for a 3 or 4 seed in the tournament. Tubby Smith with Minnesota. They were down in the pits and then Tubby took over and they're a very good team now. It's Belein's second year at Michigan and they're improving as well. Also, look at what Seth Greenberg has done at Virginia Tech. Their basketball program was an absolute joke but now they are getting better every single year and will probably win the ACC next year.

Greg honestly needs to go. He's had ample time and he continually hasn't helped this team. A good coach who is in a "bad situation" would show signs of improvements. He has shown signs of deprovements (not sure if that's a word) because each year the team is getting worse. Hopefully Pollard puts him away because if he doesn't, nobody is going to go to games anymore because everyone who isn't an idiot is sick and tired of having McDermott as our coach.

Ask fans of Long Beach St what they think of Wayne Morgan.

Because he coached at, and got fired at LBS maybe??? I don't know? Morgan was a desperation hire to keep Stinson and Blalock, without whom Morgan would have been gone in 2 years. His just rolled the ball out and said go play.

Awesome Rick,

McDermott does not recruit well. I don't know who told you that lie

If you don't think that booster's will pony up 700K to get rid of him if we win 15 games next year than you live in a fantasy world.

I think we will be better next year and I think we will win 19 games and Greg will stay, but if he doesn't he is gone

I guess I don't really care what LBS fans have to say. So he was fired from there. If we're randomly asking people, let's ask Orange coach Jim B what he thinks of Wayne Morgan--he probably knows more about basketball than LBS fans.

To me, talking about how bad of a coach Morgan doesn't make McD look better--it makes your argument worse. Can't you come up with arguments about why McD is improving, rather than just talking about how bad Morgan was?

Right now, McD's teams aren't getting it done on the court. Wayne's did more than McD's teams. That doesn't mean I'm ready to fire McD. He shouldn't be, even if he loses the rest of the games this year.

I think next year is where we'll figure out where the direction of the program is headed.

After firing Eustachy (who took us to two conference titles and a heartbeat away from a Final Four), Morgan (who could at least recruit), and then Mac (who inherited a mess), I'm sure that we'd have a long line of quality coaches looking to prove themselves--in three years or less.

:jimlad:<--just in case I needed it.

Colvin and Gilstrap will improve the athleticism by boatloads. That will help tremendously.

The thing that worries me is what are we gonna do at SF after Gilstrap leaves and HB leaves Ames? We'll have a 4 guard, 1 big lineup.

:biglaugh: Like the long line of quality coaches that lined up after we got rid of Eustachy? Or hell even after Floyd?!?!

We are ISU, we are always going to have to take a mid major schools coach. Floyd, Eustachy, and McDermott. If we fired McDermott it would be the same way. To think it would be any different is laughable

Once again, I am not saying we should fire McDermott, just that their is a very very good chance that he will be if we only win 15 games next year

Craig Brackins. Diante Garrett. Lucca Staiger. All of them were great recruits. Brackins was a five star, Garrett was a top 150 recruit, and Lucca was the #30 SF per scout. That's very good recruiting. Learn your facts before you are totally wrong.

Plus Colvin and Gilstrap will help with the non-whiteness aspect of this team. We lose 3 whities after this year in Peterson, Huluska and Thompson. That will help out a lot. Next year we could only have one white guy in the starting lineup, I am excited.

That is AVERAGE recruiting in major college basketball... We SHOULD be pulling 1-3 top 100 guys EVERY YEAR and rarely sign guys out of the top 150.

Without the sarcasm pirate: a racist pile of crap

With the sarcasm pirate: hilarious

Now you are just not making any sense. Do you think we are the only major college basketball team in the country? Seriously, we aren't the only team trying to get all of these recruits.

Craig Brackins. That is it

He struck out on 13 prospects in 2008, got flustered and signed 7 guys.

DG is an ok guard but isn't a big time recruit and Lucca was an average recruit that nobody had ever heard of before we got him. We didn't really battle against to many schools for him

If you think that Greg is a good recruiter than you don't follow college basketball. Over the last 2 years we have one of the worst classes in the Big 12 talent wise

What makes you think I wasn't referring to midmajors under "quality coach"? Our usual coaching talent pool. As a matter of fact, where almost every major draws from--or assistants at other majors. Thus the "prove" part. Boy, you really do make your own assumptions and run with them.

I'd say it's laughable, but some things are just plain sad...
