Tech is a dangerous team.
ISU should be able to confuse their young QB (as Tech should be able to do to ISU's). It will be interesting to see how the ISU offense continues to evolve.
Tech has a pair of 6'6 receivers that are good, and will give ISU fits if their OL gives the QB a lot of time.
One of Techs better RB's is a recruit that ISU nearly had in the bag last year but decided not to pursue in the end.
The Tech defense is better than the past few years and it isn't close.

I watched most of the Kansas vs. Tech game. Tech looked better than I would have expected, but I think a lot of that can be chalked up to Kansas still being not very good. TT ran a lot of screen passes with the occasional deep shot mixed in, with a fair amount of success. Kansas' defense was able to create turnovers, but it was like they would have one great play and then 2 plays later just make fundamental mistakes.
TT's defensive secondary looked pretty good, but I'm not sure if that says more about them or Kansas' QB situation. Kansas had a couple decent receivers, but the QB just couldn't get the ball there, or got panicked with minimal pressure. Any of our QBs will put more pressure on TT than they saw last Saturday.
Kansas also just could not get the ball in the end zone. They had chances, but couldn't capitalize. For example, at one point they got a turnover only 10 yards from the endzone, but then threw a pick in the endzone.
Texas Tech is better than last year, but we have improved a lot too. I don't think we need to take a lot of risks on defense, just play our base 3-man front and we'll be OK. If we play fundamental and limit the mistakes, we should win be 10 or more. If we try to force things, it could be a close game or even a loss. IMHO.

I think this is the same tech team as we see every year. Potent offense with a porous defense. Replace Kansas with Oklahoma (like our big 12 slate to this point) and they would be middle of the road at best (defensively) in all liklihood).

Agree, could have been our third victory over a ranked team.
Interesting that the coaches are not as impressed with TT. They are about the 10th team receiving votes in their poll.

Although I'm slowly converting her to be all-in for ISU, I still need to be very careful this weekend... lest I end up sleeping outside after the game for too much ****-talking...
The coaches probably realize that TTU hasn't beaten anyone yet. Seems like every season they "start hot" by beating their weaker non-conference slate and maybe a win or two in conference, before ending up 6-6 or 7-5.
Kingsbury mentions that he thinks they need to get more out of their running game. He recognizes that he needs to be able to run against the ISU defense or they will sit back and destroy him when they try to pass on them. His O-line is built for pass protection and is really mostly only effective run blocking when they have a defense scrambling to try to defend their pass game. I don't think that O-line and those backs can consistently carry the load for them against this defense.
I'm still surprised Bowman is back this quick after a collapsed lung.
You don't think that TT has better RBs than WV? Agree to disagree then, because I think either King or Henry would start for WV.
Imo TT is more talented at most positions. With a healthy Bowman they’re better than WVU with an erratic Grier
That's my favorite defensive play from last season. Watch the play again, immediately after the snap, look how quickly Spears sniffs it and is almost at full speed when he intercepts.
TT doesn't have the smarts of our defensive coordinator or the players with the ability to make Grier erratic like ISU did. Not many teams in the conference do.

Who knows how this game ends up, but Tech looks like a paper tiger on defense at this point. they have played 3 of 4 games against the bottom half big 12 offenses. The one offense they played in the upper half of the big 12 put up 35 in one half. I watched that game and it could have been more. WVU had tons of drops, overthrows, stupid penalties, and ill advised sacks taken by Grier (which is guess seems typical after our game). A WVU fan would say they were up by so much, they got lazy and let off the gas. A tech fan would say they settled in, made adjustments and dominated the second half. Probably a mixture of both.
This was the game bowman got hurt. He is a pro style, backup is a dual threat. Total change of pace that was probably tough to adjust to for WVU after bowman was looking pretty bad average in the first 1.5 quarters.
Tech also gave up 47 and lost to a bad ole miss team (5-2 but their best win besides Tech is against Arkansas (by 4).
Tech gave up 49 to Houston in a win.
Both Iowa State and Texas Tech have played 4 conference games with 3 similar opponents and lost 1 non-conference game. Both have had QB injuries and both have started 3 different QB's.
Through those 4 conference games Texas Tech has scored 140 points(#2 in conference) and allowed 89 points (#1 in conference).
Through those 4 conference games Iowa State has scored 119 points (#5 in conference) and allowed 110 points (#5 in conference).
To add some perspective to those numbers, both team have gone 2-1 vs TCU, WVU & OSU. The only difference is that ISU's 4th game came vs. OU and Tech's 4th game came vs. KU.
I think ISU fans would have a fair argument that they might be undefeated if Purdy had started all their games and I think Tech fans would have a fair argument that they might be undefeated if Alan Bowman started and finished all their games.

But seriously, Tech is a good team. I think your defense has been a nice surprise and the freshman QB obviously has been good as well. I am hoping that ISU's defensive scheme and aggressiveness can really fluster him, as he doesn't appear to be much of a runner.
