On to Texas Tech

What does everyone thing? They look better than I expected, especially on defense. Yeah, they are not great, but they are not horrible like they traditionally are. They have some nice wins including beating up on OSU and sneaking out a win against TCU. They had an interesting game against WVU. Fell way behind, and then rallied to make it a close game in the second half, which is also very unlike TT.

I haven't really seen them play this year, but their offensive stats are pretty impressive. Looks like their starting QB is back from injury and played well against KU, which of course doesn't mean a lot either.

This should end up a lot like the WVU game, hopefully. WVU had a higher rated defense than Tech too. If we get to the qb again and keep everything in front, we should be able to win. Probably not like 2 years ago in Jack Trice, but it is hard to bet against us vs tech after the last two years.
 
The TTU game should have been a lot closer. KU was within the 5 yard line 3 times 1st and goal and only got 3 points. Bender was absolutely horrible.

The Kansas defense was actually creating turn overs but the offense blew it.

TTU DL didn’t seem as impressive as they have been against KU.

Bowman is a pretty good freshman QB. We’re going to need to pressure him a lot to create turn overs and mistakes.
 
I watched game yesterday and honestly they struggled with KU copycat version of our defense for first half then pulled away late. I do think Kingsbury and staff motivated to beat us...he mentioned like 3 times in press conference that "we have had there number". That means nothing other than the fact that they will be ready to play but they still don't tackle well on defense. Will be a good game let's get a sellout homecoming crowd.

I do wish it were another night game. Homecoming games should be night games so that alumni can go onto campus and things during the day and later games make for another awesome gametime atmosphere.

I think this might be the best matchup of the week in the Big 12. Bowman is back in their lineup, and their defense is good enough to take something away of their choosing. I think we win, but it's going to take some grit to get the third win in a row vs coach handsome. We come off a bye, but they come off a mid-season tune-up in Lawrence.

Looks like some cooler air moves in...50 degrees at kick, but a strong Northwest wind of 10-20 mph with higher gusts will make things sporty for the passing game. Rain showers should be out of here prior to the game...a nice, chilly welcome for our TTech guests!

Some of you guys looked at one game. Before Kansas, Tech was ranked dead last in the conference in total defense.

Last.

Edit: I apologize. I went back and looked at the PDF (I like to download them), and prior to KU, Tech was dead last in passing defense.

That was still good enough for me.

And they are still better than they have been in the past. They also run a lot of plays, score a lot of points, forcing other teams to score, and run more plays. ISU's defense last year had great stats, but compared to a lot of Big teams, ISU runs less plays and tends to slow the games down, giving other teams less opportunities to run plays. In general, I agree, they are not good, but they are not the sieve we have seen in the past.

That's a good point. After Kansas, 4 games into the conference season, according to the Big 12 sit, Tech is 5th is Total Defense. But note that they are also 1st in Scoring Defense, and 1st in Red Zone Defense. Even with the Kansas outlier, for many of us, it is sobering to think that Texas Tech can even spell defense.

Are you talking about Tech, or West Virginia?
