The comparison is WVU to TT, not TT to ISU.
With Bowman surprisingly playing as well as Grier, TT is a more talented team imo. I think they’ll be better at handling a defense than Grier and WVU.

The difference in that fourth opponent is huge since OU has the #1 offense in the conference (50.0 ppg) and KU has the #10 offense (18.3 ppg).
Less than a TD per game separates the #2 offense from the #7 offense and only 5.2 ppg is the difference between Tech and ISU. One quarter (1 or 4 games) of the difference between OU's and KU's defense is 1.6 points.
The same 5.2 ppg is the difference between the Tech D and the ISU D. One quarter of the offensive difference between OU and KU is almost 8 points.
When the difference in competition is baked out of it the two teams have performed at almost the exact same level.
Completely agree. Obviously, OU is a much better opponent than KU. The only thing I would add to lend some perspective is that simply by scheme, Iowa State should have the better defensive numbers every year. Iowa State runs the ball more, runs fewer plays, limits opponent possessions and then plays a prevent 3 high safety cloud defense.
It's very impressive that the Iowa State defense is #1 in the conference in rushing yards allowed. In theory, the Iowa State defense should be giving up some rushing yards with 3 DL and 3 High Safeties but they don't.
Averaging 4 sacks a game in conference play does help to skew the rushing defense numbers just a little bit. It would be more accurate to have sacks as part of passing stats like they do in the NFL, but I get that there are more running QBs in college so where do you draw the line between a QB rush TFL and a passing sack.
Also, ISU has a patient defense. They are willing to give up yards hoping to make an impatient offense get greedy and make a mistake. The last two games of attacking an offense with blitzes were outside the norm. I expect more sitting back in the Tech game because Kingsbury's offense is not patient.
ISU's defense has been hamstrung by several special teams miscues and an offense that took several games to find itself. They were on the field (and the opposing offenses were as well) way more than when the offense has figured out how to sustain drives and score points.
Yes, they count for everyone regardless of how they are counted. I'm just saying that sacks counted against passing game would more accurately reflect the effectiveness of the passing game and effectiveness of the running game.

Grier's QB rating is like 30 points higher but OK
Big difference here is our 2 was WVU/OSU, and only gave up 14 (7 offensive) points to WVU compared to TTU's 42.
It's down to ISU -3.5 @ 5dimes. I would be upset I got Iowa State at -5.5, if I thought they wouldn't win by less than double digits.

Is Purdy better than Grier? I don’t know, but I know he’s better than the erratic Grier of WVU’s last two games. And regardless of that, Bowman and TT’s check-down style of play works better against our defense than Grier-Stills home run ball.

Yes. It was going to be 6pm but JP thought because of the slight chance of rain and the input of folks on this board he insisted it get moved up to 9am to make sure the weather didn't get the game cancelled. TV said no 11am at the earliest and JP relented a little and agreed.
What I don't get is why people are so high on Bowman. He is playing in a system in which every QB produces these kinds of numbers. ISU has dominated them last 2 years and we expect Tech to come in to Ames, on homecoming, with the D playing lights out, and anyone expects Bowman to do anymore than struggle? It's beyond me to think he is some special QB as a freshman in this spot.
