They get 9 this year, so it's not that rough. That was one of the reason for going to 17 games, so as to maintain having at least 8 home game a year whenever a team hosts an international game.
It has been rumored for quite some time, but I thought it would be the Bears rather than Miami. Does the league not want to see Hill back in K.C.?
Supposedly KC requested that the Bears game not be the Germany one. Not sure why. They typically haven't put division games over there and no way was it going to be Buf, Cin, or Phi. That left Mia or Det. Hill facing KC again was going to be a marquee game, so they are probably trying to leverage that to increase viewership.
Believe I saw if they would have moved that game to Germany the Bears would ended up playing in KC like just 1 time in 20 years or so. Also Bears fans travel so guessing city of KC wants that Hotel, Restaurant, etc $$$.

When Green Bay plays at KC, city is full of green and gold. Everywhere. Many times in shorts in November.
I would assume Bears fans travel similarly.
Explains why Detroit was probably off the table, too, as the last time they played in KC was 2003. The 2015 game was in London.

It's possible. They'll never compete with Premier League but they don't have too. London is big enough to support an NFL team. I think it's more likely they give someone like Portland a team though.
Picking the Lions over the Eagles, Bills or Bengals is mindblowing to me, but guessing the NFL going with the strategy that people will watch opening night regardless of opponent and then they can hype those other matchups up later.
Yep, Lions are supposedly the new hot and rising team and they very well could be but like you said they could put pretty much anybody in that match-up and people will still watch it.
It's also the first meeting of Mahomes and Goff since that epic Monday nighter 5 years ago. Sure, their careers have gone in decidedly different directions since, but the Lions are the new hot team for this year.
The Bills went on the road to the LA Rams Week 1 last year. They weren't going to make them go on the road against the defending champs two years in a row. Then the Bengals on NYE is going to be views views views. And a Super Bowl rematch straight out of the gate? Nah.
