Expectations for 2018-2019

Oh, for sure, next year we should finally have a full roster capable of contributing and if an injury occurs we should have the experience to plug in guys without losing much. Im as excited about next year's roster as anybody, just trying to point out that it will have taken Prohm 3 1/2 years to actually build an entire Big 12 roster.

Yeah, he definitely took on some guys that had no business playing in the Big 12.

Lol 3.5 years. Sheesh

You should give up on Cyclone basketball and just follow the Bulls full time like a good Fred bootlicker should. You're worse than a Hawk troll here.

I don't watch NBA basketball, its an inferior product compared to college. I like good basketball, not 4 guys standing around while Lebron backs down his defender and shoots 30 times a game.

Lol, I dont have time to dig through threads from 3 years ago. I can tell you people were gushing over the roster like they do now. Im pretty sure you could find a few posts where people thought guys like Ernst and Carter would be playing significant minutes.

I said Ernst would never play a meaningful minute at ISU when he signed

I have read all these posts and others. I still come up with some basic stuff. This team looks like it never practice, They haven't gotten any better all year. Take last night 19 turnovers. Poor passing, hands of stone and can't make free throws, You watch them play and other teams do pick and rolls and get the ball inside and normally score. If we don't shoot the first 10-15 seconds we turn the ball over. I thought Lard would be better than McKay. But, he has even bigger head problems. Several more head cases on this team. Defense is just something to talk about. We couldn't guard anyone if our life depended on it. I don't know how many times the other team has wide open threes. Every one of our threes are somewhat guarded. We have troubles just passing the ball around the outside without it getting batted away. Or is this the problem of having small guards. Talley does the best job of moving the ball and driving for a man his size. Our starting guards seem to fall down or lose the ball when they try dribbling around to get a shot. If you are small you better be able to move with the ball and dribble. I see where we offered another guard that is 6' 1". Give me guards that are 6'3" or bigger. I know Wigg can jump but so can a lot of players. Even Lazarrd had a 38 inch vertical. Bottom line this team lacks basic skills, can't run offensive plays or play defense. Not a whole lot that they do well for 40 minutes. Sure we have had a lot of injuries. But, basic knowledge or basketball IQ isn't there for most. Brase seemed to have the most IQ. When he was in there things seemed to be a little more calm or under control. Too bad he was hurt before he got here. Put Brase head on Lard and you would have something.
Two starters accounting for nearly 20 points and 12 rebounds a game went down for the year, a player's dad passed away, which clearly affected him the rest of the year, and the guys forced into major minutes were freshmen and transfers that were not Big XII caliber players. To expect them to improve through that is pretty absurd.

I hope I’m wrong but I just don’t see it next year. The same team that came in dfl by 4 games is all the sudden, with the same players, going to be in the top half? Optimisticly we finish 7 and get in the dance. I hope I’m wrong but I just can’t fathom this team contending for a conference title or finishing in the top 3 like some of you.
How can you say it’s the same players? We’re adding at least 6 guys. And maturing.

Good point.
This seems to go unmentioned. If Iowa State played in any other conference, they would have won more games.

I made a thread about OSU yesterday... in their postgame the guys on set were saying that they should be in. If OSU beats KU again (tall, tall task) today they WILL be in in my opinion, which could realistically put 9 Big 12 teams in.

This is a bad take

Back to the original topic. I think we should realistically set our expectations as back in the tourney or bust. This will be all players Prohm has recruited and we should have the necessary talent and depth to get in as a 8 or 9 seed.

As for rotation......

Wiggington
Weiler-Babb
Shayok
Young
Lard

Talley is the 6th man off the bench

Jacobsen will see alot of minutes in the frontcourt, rebound and play good defense

THT-I think he starts the year off on the bench like Monte and Georges, depending on how good he is could be starting by January, although Im not sure who's spot he takes

Lewis-just needs confidence and more playing time, maybe can come in and be a 3 point specialist

Long-not sure if he will be on the roster next year honestly

Griffin-could see him playing 5-10 minutes a game next year or giving spot minutes

Conditt/Haliburton- probably wont play much, could see one of them redshirting

If you concentrate on the 1% of people saying that, it's a you problem.

Obviously, based on everything that followed.

See this is a good and reasonable post. Post more like this and less about depth and Nebraska

I'm going to ride the fence here - I think top half may be asking a lot. I do think the expectation should be in the tourney. I wouldn't be shocked if it didn't happen.

Pluses: Respect to Brase and Beverly, they battled this year, but they played 387 minutes in Big 12 play this year. That will be reduced to zero next year and will be picked up by Talley, Jacobsen, and a healthy again Young next year. That right there is a massive improvement especially defensively. Long and Lewis will improve and IMO I expect THT to take their minutes which will be an improvement. Lard and Wigginton should be able to hit the ground running.

Minuses: There are some legit concerns about coaching (performance after the half, slow starts with a very difficult schedule to start the year next year) and there will be some tough teams still in the league next year. Who do we pass? It's not a given.

NBA is a joke compared to college, not in the talent level obviously but in the way its played. I havent watched a complete game since Jordan was around and have no interest in ever watching another.

my only concern next year is babb's health.

if he can't get to 100% (because he's really good when healthy and no good if not), a grad transfer PG would be ideal.
