Classless Hawk fans....

No one had said that you're making it up. The issue is that you assumed the two were Iowa fans simply because of something they said to you, even though you've got nothing in the way of evidence to back up that claim.

Then again, this is a message board; had you said they were wearing Iowa shirts, it would have been taken as the gospel.

Fact is there are a lot of bad hawk fans out there that make the fanbase look bad and I've heard a lot of horror stories from big 10 school fans and many fan polls I've seen back in the day rated them poorly against other colleges for fan sportsmanship. But there are some really good fans out there and some our friends who I love to tailgate with and can talk sports any day even about each others teams without getting in shouting or smack talking matches. There are good hawkeyes out there. You just have to look harder ;)

Hahaha yes, I was wondering if this would come up. You forgot the best part. So to continue this story....

After we had both stood up and Mr. Erik4Cy had gotten done exchanging words with the *******, his buddy pulled him back and shoved him into his seat saying "Shut the **** up dude, you went to kirkwood!" :biglaugh:

We may have lost that day, but drinking with the ISU alumni and watching a hawk get put in his place by another, I still had a blast.

He was in Florida at Disney World. Ketelmeister I have had comments from Hawk fans around the country when wearing ISU gear. If I randomly run into someone wearing a EIU t-shirt somewhere I never talk to them or make a snide comment. I just quitely laugh at the shiny polyester clad broken-tooth trailer trash and smile knowingly at that their continued lifelong goal of a GED.

You posting period is classless. I would never bother reading a Hawkeye message board, let alone post on it. I'm not a fan of country music. Do I go on a forum for country music and make posts? No. I don't like NASCAR. Should I go on a NACAR site and make posts? No. I just don't understand the thought process of Hawkeye fans that spend hours trolling the site of their rival. I would say the number of Hawk fans that have already posted in this thread is evidence that there is some validity to the thread title. Whether you guys like it or not, or think it's fair or not, Hawkeye fans have a reputation that goes far outside the borders of Iowa as being poor fans.
 
Cyclone fans can be poor fans too. For example - I happened to be in IC in 2005 the weekend of the ISU - Iowa game. After the game I went to a bar with my brothers, decked out head to toe in Cyclone gear. When the bartender told me it took a lot of guts to be there dressed like that, I drunkenly replied "Most of you guys can't read anyway"
 
How come internet message boards are the only places I ever hear of this type of thing happening (regardless of which fans of what teams are involved)?

I mean, I'm sure this type of behavior really does happen occasionally, but I have a feeling it doesn't happen with the high degree of frequency implied by posts like the OP's. Seems like an awfully easy thing to exaggerate, especially in a forum such as this. Not necessarily calling the OP a liar, but... I don't really completely believe him/her, either.

I think the worst thing I have ever seen was last year in Iowa City for the ISU/Iowa game. We were at a buddies place after the game playing some football and drinking beer when I saw nick and nate freres (spelling?) parents walking down the street and they had both of their numbers in their jerseys and this idiot at the house next door says "where did you get those stupid jerseys you retards there are too many numbers on them". Then the dad comes right back at them and says "I'm their dad you dumb****". They continued to harass them until they were out of site and a pass that I threw "accidently" hit the guy in the face making him spill his beer on his buddy. Good times

These women could have been from Iowa, Nebraska or pretty much any other Big 12 state. You have no idea where they are from, but you assume Iowa???? I can't believe this has gone on for 5 pages when there is no validity to the original post; just an ignorant assumption.

My perspective on this whole rivalry between fans is that it has gotten much more intense the past 10 years due to the competitiveness of the game. Prior to that Iowa ran away with it most times and no one got too worked up about it either way. Since the rivalry has intensified, fans of both teams have also turned up the heat when it comes to the treatment of opposing fans. The atmosphere in Iowa City is on a much larger scale in terms of the number of people in attendance and the area in which tailgating takes place. If there are 75k fans at the game there are probably 90k in and around the stadium tailgating for this game. Your odds of running into a few dip$hits is fairly likely, but no more than any other event that size. Your odds of meeting good fans that will invite you over for a beer is pretty high; see it happen all the time both ways.

I would be willing to bet that if ISU becomes competitive with Nebraska or Missouri in the near future you will start to see the atmosphere surrounding those games intensify as well. With Nebraska, ISU is still where they were with Iowa 10+ years ago; no one gets too worked up because they are still winning almost every game. I would anticipate that that would change if ISU starts winning.

Bowls love having Iowa in their game because of their fans. If they had problems with the fans I would think that would sway them against Iowa. I have been to a few bowl games and Iowa fans are very well received by their opposing fan bases. Texas, Florida and LSU were all great games with great atmospheres.

I have tailgated at every single Clone-Hawk football game since 2002. That’s 4 in Iowa City and 3 in Ames. Clone fans give Hawks fans just as much crap, from what I have witnessed. It's just all part of the rivalry, IMO.

It's the WT, mouth breathing squawk fans that give the rest of them a bad name. The bad thing is that 75% of them fall into this category.

In 2002, after we came back and won that game, I went to the ped mall and cover for ISU fans was $50 at most bars, and during that tailgate a piece of **** hawk fan busted one of my friends in the head with a beer bottle!
