My wife and I were at Disneyworld this week and while walking into Epcot passed two 30ish year old women. I had on an Iowa State t-shirt, and they yelled "losers" to us. I laughed and walked on. We have gone to games across the country, have met fans from every Big 12 school, and many other colleges, and Iowa seems the only major college that fans like this are in abundance. Anyone else with similar experiences?

For some reason this does not surprise me.... never fails
When Iowa fans come to Ames to the Iowa-ISU game they are not treated even close to how ISU fans are treated in Iowa City... It's like night and day
Oddly enough, I was at Disneyworld this year as well in an Iowa State jersey and had a couple from North Carolina tell me that Iowa State Hawkeyes fans are usually a-holes after I had a pleasant talk with them. I preceded to tell them I was a Cyclone not a hawkeye and that the university of iowa was the hawkeyes and they said Oh Yeah! That's them. I just said yep, black and gold, I know...and told them to keep their distance from them. Lol
I thought maybe it was just the rivalry until I moved to Minnesota. It was interesting to discover that they had a similar view that Hawkeye fans were more obnoxious than other fans. I would think more Iowa fans would be embarassed by their reputation, but most seem to be in denial.
Not completely true. I was dressed to the hill in Iowa State stuff last year in Iowa City (facepaint, bibs, etc.) and yeah, I took some good natured ribbing, yeah there were a few *** holes, but all in all, it wasn't a bad environment.
I've seen a couple Iowa fans, in their 20's, try to pick a fight with two Gopher fans pushing 60, with their wives by their side. Seriously I know we have "our" fans that are idiots but nothing compares to the classlessness of a lot of hawk fans.
Must just be the students.... We went to Iowa City and were beraded constantly yet the year before in parking lots there were plenty of Iowa fans hangin out with the ISU fans.... Obviously there are exceptions but that is just what I noticed
Did I miss it somewhere?? You said you passed to women in their 30's and they called you a loser. How did you know they were Hawkeye fans?? Did they have Black and Gold on??
Not trying to question your story, but you never mentioned how you knew they were Hawk fans. They could of been K-State fans, Nebraska fans. Or someone from a fanbase that doesn't like us.
Please put how you know they are Hawks. I assume it could be anyone.
Or... it could have had nothing to do with the shirts.... maybe they just didn't find the OP and his buddies attractive? Happens to me all the time.
The first 3 times I was in Iowa City for the Iowa/ISU game, I took a lot of crap from Iowa fans. It was really bad in 2006. Last year, nobody said a word. I was decked to the hilt in C&G and walking back to my tailgate solo. Not a word. Also, I've seen Iowa fans take plenty of abuse in Ames. Especially after the last two games. We give it to them pretty bad, too.
At a the ISU/iowa gamewatch I watched a 20 something hawk fan (who I could guarantee from the look never even went there, maybe not even HS) push and **** talk to a man who had to be 60s, maybe 70s who was a State fan just trying to close the doors at a bar so they could sit and watch so being in my 20s as well I had to stand up to this jerk and his friend and pushed them off and they were lucky I hadn't known that older man or I would have knocked their lights out.
Fact is there are a lot of bad hawk fans out there that make the fanbase look bad and I've heard a lot of horror stories from big 10 school fans and many fan polls I've seen back in the day rated them poorly against other colleges for fan sportsmanship. But there are some really good fans out there and some our friends who I love to tailgate with and can talk sports any day even about each others teams without getting in shouting or smack talking matches. There are good hawkeyes out there. You just have to look harder
