Classless Hawk fans....

In 2002, after we came back and won that game, I went to the ped mall and cover for ISU fans was $50 at most bars, and during that tailgate a piece of **** hawk fan busted one of my friends in the head with a beer bottle!

In 2005, I saw a Clone fan pee on the Iowa band equipment as they were loading it into thier trailor...

it's the band!! Who cares! I'd pee on the ISU band stuff too!! Plus, peeing on equipment is total different then blasting some one in the head with a glass bottle the last time i checked.

That was the same weekend a friend of ours said to a girl "Nice sweater, who shot the couch?"
She replied, "Shut up, fat ***!"
He smiled, nodded, and said "Fair enough."

You stay classy...

just like people deserve to get their head blasted with a beer bottle

Both are completly classless incidents. The point is, these incidents happen to both fan bases from the other fan base. It's not just Hawk fans being classless to Clone fans. It works both ways.

Then why do Hawkeye fans have such a bad national reputation? I'm not saying every reputation is deserved, but there must be some reason why everywhere I've lived (MN, OR, AZ) college sports fans tell me they can't stand Hawkeye fans? That's usually when they know I'm from Iowa, but don't know I'm a Cyclone.

I was at a family friend's wedding a number of years ago, up in Dubuque. Wearing suit & tie - not even any ISU apparel.

A guy who's a family member of another guy who is friends with my father - and knows I'm an ISU grad and fan, starts giving me all kinds of grief. Making outrageous comments and won't leave me alone til I put $50 on the game.

That was the summer before we dropped them 23-3. Wallet is still $50 light.

In full disclosure, this guy was drunk, is a complete ***-clown even when sober, and actually had a kid who was on the hawk fb squad - and is one of those parents who lives vicariously through their children.

I'm not going to claim that all hawk fans are like this - but it seems I run into plenty. And I agree somewhat with the OP, that I don't get similar treatment of comments from Big XII foes.

One thing I will say is a little different between the two fan bases is that Iowa fans are pretty brutal to every single opposing fan base that comes into Iowa City. I have been to a few Hawkeye tailgates/games that did not involve ISU, and I will say they are pretty consistent on how they treat opposing fan bases.

ISU on the other hand seems to be pretty brutal towards Iowa and Nebraska, although not as much towards Nebraska as they are to Iowa. Any other fan base that comes to Ames seems to be treated quite well overall by ISU fans.

You can live in MN, OR and AZ and find someone that hates USC fans or Florida fans or Nebraska fans or Texas fans or Ohio St fans; you people are dreaming if you think Iowa is disliked more than any of these other teams. My experience in AZ is that Iowa is very well liked and there are a lot of Iowa fans there. My experience in MN is that they are as big of an Iowa rival as ISU is so they obviously don't like Iowa fans for many of the same reasons as ISU. (And Iowa fans took down the Metrodome fg post about 5 yrs ago after beating them).

Nebraska fans are ten times more obnoxious and disliked around the country as are Wisconsin fans. Now those two fan bases have issues.

My guess is your friend wasn't just standing around being friendly. I just have a hard time believing that this would happen if unprovoked. I have been to probably 100 Iowa games and never seen something like that happen unprovoked.

The worst provocation I have ever seen on the ISU vs Iowa weekend was actually by ISU fans in the ped mall I think in '02. They had some radio show at Vito's down in the ped mall and a ton of ISU fans paid $10 to get in. This was a large group (dozens) of ISU fans joining together to provoke Iowa fans when the bar closed. Luckily there is a high concentration of police in that area otherwise it could have gotten really bad. A friend of mine got jumped by 3 ISU fans (actually wearing ISU gear; not just assuming they are ISU fans). He beat the $hit out of the first two and a third came and kicked him right in the pills and dropped him; the other two then helped kick him while on the ground. This was right next to Martini's in the alleyway.

It happens both ways so please don't try and kid yourselves.

You'd be wrong. Unless wearing ISU clothes is provoking, then yes.
