CGC..

This is a different team than last year. Buying tickets is not a sign of showing respect to our players. You obviously know little about showing respect. You probably think that you can provide for food and shelter for loved ones while verbally abusing them means you are showing them respect. It doesn't.
I disagree. The level of season tickets that have purchased is the ultimate sign of respect and support. Fans speak with their pocketbooks. If McCarney had this amount of support he would still be coaching here. It's easy to give lip service but the true sign of support is with $$$. That is why fans hold the power.

This program has everything ready to become a good football program; the facilities, the University, and the fans. It's just missing one thing. Success on the football field.

These football players are kids. They have fessed up about their giving up problems and they are wanting to change that mindset. Give these kids a chance to show what they can do.
I think this sums up the attitude of Cyclone fans at this moment.

Well, folks, welcome to the s***show that ISU football forum has become. A thread about actual football players on the actual field turns into people b******* about people b*******, then people b******* about the people b******* about people b*******...and now you f***ers got me to b**** about the people b******* about people b******* about the people b*******. Bunch of b****** in hurr..

Lots of truth here. I probably should have used the :pcute: in a couple of my responses. Having said that, it seems that a couple of people (myself included) remarked over the weekend that they had a "show me rather than tell me" attitude when it came to the whole "culture" thing. I also made the remark that it would be nice to beat the FCS team on our schedule for the first time in three years. That didn't sit well with a couple of folks, which is quite all right since this is a message board forum. If we all sat in here nodding to each other and pumping sunshine, it would be a pretty boring place.

I never, ever call out individual players but have no problem commenting on the performance of well paid professionals who earn hundreds of thousands / millions of dollars to produce results.

I am going to travel 1,700 miles to watch the team play in person this year. Can't wait to see the newly configured JTS. I will be watching every other game on TV just as I do every year. I wouldn't trade being a Cyclone fan. It's a helluva lot of fun.

I assume that what is "wanted" is for the negative minority to tone it down a bit--and not come along and spoil every positive thread that gets started.

Just my guess.

No, Stormin wants to hear only blind optimism. Truth is, our fans are ridiculous good and supportive relative to the results we have received. You won't find a better fan base in football.

Negative Minority? How many Cyclone fans do you know? In person, not on the message board. After the last 2 years, every Cyclone fan I know is bummed about the direction of the football program. "Wait and see, maybe things will fall right and we can get 5 or 6 wins" is the most positive thing I have heard from anyone about next season.

They are division 1 athletes getting a full ride and not a single person is saying anything cruel about them. They are in the public spotlight and were one of the worst teams in the country last year. They are going to have to take some criticism on their poor play. No one is condemning them to perpetual failure but few believe a change in attitude before the season starts is simply going to elevate them to a bowl team.

Everyone here, negative or rustshack optimistic, wants ISU to win every single game in all sports. I promise you this.

I have to disagree with you on the cruel things they say. I sit in the student section and when Sam accidentally misses a pass the WHOlE crowd yells: Sam, you are a piece of **** or take him the **** out, he's garbage. Like I said, just because the adults don't say it doesn't mean kids don't either. They can be extremely mean and why would you play for a college when people say that? I know they say it because I'm right behind them getting angry at them.

Sorry, that sounds more to me like "realism" than it does the brand of pessimism I see displayed in certain quarters here.

patience is a virtue. Yes I want improvement to trust me. These things take time. Remember this, life is not a race but a journey. We all need to be patient with them.
It has been 716 days since we lost to UNI on August 31st, 2013. That's a long time. Or to channel my inner DirtyNinety, it has been 959 days since the Liberty Bowl loss. That's a long time. Patience is one thing, but it isn't like the last two seasons have shown a groundwork being laid for future success, or anything like that. If this team comes out and blasts UNI in a couple weeks CF is going to be a much different place. Everyone is ready to cheer for football again, we've just been beaten to many times since 2012 to have any confidence until we actually see it on the field.

Why don't you go **** yourself 00clone! I'm tired of your smug, sunshine pumping *** coming around here like everything is fine. The ******* sky is falling you ******* *** hole! Take your koolaid drinking bull **** somewhere else. I'm just being real here. I expect these 18-21 year old kids to be putting in more effort than NFL players. After all, if you want to be at that level, you've got to work harder than the people already there. Instead we just had ******* like 00clone here talking about how this group of quitters deserve some sort of trophy or something because they go to ******* class! **** that ****! Victory before honor!

Yeah, I agree. I think some posters get mad about realism. Maybe they are confusing the two. Heck I got ripped earlier this year when I disagreed with a poster touting our depth at the LB position of all places.

If only the players had that much passion.

Yes but we are Iowa state. We do not have a successful program like Alabama, Texas, or Oklahoma does. We cannot turn around like they can in a year or twos time. It takes time for us. thats why it's hard to stick with a program like this. Just thank your lucky stars that we aren't as bad as Kansas is. Like I said, it's a journey and you have be patient. I'm just optimist about this years team. Heck I could be wrong but win or lose I will forever love the Cyclones!

1. If we were in the first years of a new coaching staff, our fans would be very patient in giving the staff time to turn it around. That is not the situation we are in. We are in Year 7, and the wheels came off in Years 5 and 6 when CPR had all his own players. That is obviously a bad sign. We are also coming off a 5-19 stretch where we lost consecutive openers to I-AA teams... it is miraculous CPR kept his job. If you put our situation in context, its easy to see why fans are impatient and expecting improvement.

2. Kansas kicked our *** last year - not sure we should be thanking our lucky stars for that. As much as I'd like to, I can't trash their program, and we are the bottom dwellers in the Big 12 until we prove differently on the field is year.

This is exactly it. I don't think anybody is worried about the overall support of the program because most Cyclone fans are more resilient than the vocal negatives on this site. However, you are correct in saying that any thread that anything positive to do with football is completely spoiled for those that wish to discuss whatever the OP was.

3. There is a huge gap between wanting to see competent play and wanting the same results of Alabama or OU. We are in Year 7 and games in which the play is at a competent, well-coached level are becoming more and more infrequent.

Those that want only positive posts in threads need to find a better team to root for. You are not going to find that on forum focused on a team coming off 5-19.

It's all relative. The Alabama boards people are pissn' and moaning about losing the NCG and their sororities being too hot.

It is true. Maybe I'm on to much of kool-aid but thats just me. I guess I'm a type of person that will give people a second chance. Things didn't work out the last few years. I know the frustration and the pain everyone has been through. I just look at it as a glass half full type of deal. It goes like this:

Cons of the last few years:

1: CPR completely did a wipe on coaches to try to get something kick started. He hired a very well minded Offensive coordinator who has the history to back it up. He has had good hires and everyone expected them to come out with a boom; it did not happen.

2: We've had so many injuries in the past few years that it was absurd. As a program that is trying to become good, we do not have the manpower that other colleges have so when injuries happen, thats a huge blow to the team. As much as I don't like to make excuses this one is a definite one that hurt us.

3. Our defense took a HUGE drop off do to not recruiting very well, kicking people off the team and so on and so forth. 2 years ago we had 2 key D-Line players kicked off the team due to team rules. We also had brand new freshman-sophmore players coming up to take place of what I say was a very good defensive squad. BIG shoes to fill when 4 or more players on your team graduate and go to the NFL.

Pros:

1: The group knows what adversity is and I imagine knows how to deal with it. Over the past few years we've been having huge adversity and I don't think the players knew how to deal with it especially for how young they were. takes time to grow up and know how to deal with it. Since then I believe that they know how to deal with it and keep rolling with the punches.

2: Attitude has been a focusing key: with these kids, they need the right mindset and with the coaches right now, I think they are making them have a better attitude. THIS IS HUGE. The team of 2011 had the right Attitude and boy what a fantastic year!! That's why coaches say its 90% mental and 10% phyiscal and thats because its all in your head. How far are you willing to go to win? will you reach that extra mile? Will you stop if it gets tough? I see these boys are sick and tired of being the bottom feeders and they are hungry!

3: This is a veteran group that now has had 2 years under ONE COACH. This is huge. for how many coaches that Iowa State has went through no wonder we have lost so much! to have some sort of stability is a huge thing for Iowa State and this we equal more wins. I promise you. It's like having multiple bosses in a matter of 2 years. I don't think you would be as productive as having one boss that has stuck around for 2 years and you know what he is looking for.

To me there is Pro's and Con's to everything but instead of trying to look at the glass half empty, I try to find positives/ a silver lining in things. I just don't like to go on this site just to complain at a team. No, I'm on this site because I'm a Cyclone lover and someday I know they will be great. It just takes time.

Rambling done...
