Playing hard in practice and in pickup games definitely transfers over to the actual season with some. Percy definitely plays during the season similar to his 'meaningless' exhibition games in the summer. good at times, listless at others
Michael Jordan was phenomenal because he was one of the most intense, balls-to-the-wall, legendary 'practice' players in NBA history------and it seemed to transfer over to regular season games
I play pickup games at lunchtime. Everyone plays hard and wants to win, even though it's 'meaningless' to everyone else
I don't expect these guys to really go all out all the time in the CCL, but what I would like to see someone like Percy do in this league is to be working on some things he will need to get better at for the season.
For example, maybe he wants to develop his right hand more... so in the CCL he works on some post moves where he goes to his right and uses his right hand more? Or maybe he's working on developing both a left and a right hand baby hook or something.... so work on that in the CCL. Or how about learning how to pass out of the post to the open man? Or work on your rebounding? There's no reason a guy like Percy can't bring down 20 rebs a night in the CCL. Work on boxing out, getting in good position and getting the rebound.
But don't just chuck up 3's all the time, which will get you benched by Fred if you do that in a real game.
Royce White did these kinds of things IMO. He knew he could put up 50 pts a night in the CCL if he really wanted to, so he choose to work on his passing ability in the CCL. He tried more than anything to get assists. And he did. It became one of his greatest strengths.
