Bowl Situation Thread

None of the non-aq teams deserve a BCS bowl this year. I love the non-aq teams including Boise, but none of them are that great this year IMO.

I think one thing to keep in mind is that last time not a whole lot of people expected the Insight Bowl. I wouldn't be surprised if we take an unexpected jump.

Yeah, but after costs of the 6 hour drive thatd almost be a wash.

Dont know what i'm doing yet for travel. May fly, may drive a group. Doing that as a drive though depends on having at least one or two people who can stand doing really long stretches of driving without going insane.

If you travel with 3 other people that is 600 dollars saved on flights....I think you can drive back and forth for 600 dollars....ALSO I may or may not have cheap rooms in Vegas due to my less than profitable trip recently

Just looking at how this BCS may shake out is another reason I am moving more and more to only following ISU sports and not wasting my time with other teams.

I found O'hare to LAX at $350 roundtrip... granted it is much more inconvenient, but it is about $150 cheaper than anything else I have found

Am I missing something? Have never flown before - but am seeing on Kayak.com flights from Omaha and Des Moines to SD at $350 that week... and I believe they are round trip.

Hopefully this year they finally close the hole and bar non-champions from competing in the title, especially against their own conference.

I've never been a proponent of playoffs, but if we're going to ignore the theory of 'the regular season is a playoff' and allow a title game rematch with a non-champion, we might as well go to a playoff because we're ignoring the regular season anyways.

whoever we play, it better be someone ******. not something BS like playing Boise State

Here's essentially how it breaks down:

IF the Big 12 gets two in the BCS:

BCS: Oklahoma State
BCS: Kansas State
Cotton: Oklahoma
Alamo: Baylor/Texas
Insight: Texas/Baylor
Holiday: Mizzou/ISU
Meineke: Texas A&M
Pinstripe: Mizzou/ISU

IF the Big 12 gets one in the BCS:

BCS: Oklahoma State
Cotton: Kansas State/Oklahoma
Alamo: Oklahoma/Kansas State
Insight: Baylor/Texas
Holiday: Texas/Baylor
Meineke: Texas A&M
Pinstripe: Mizzou/ISU
At-Large: Mizzou/ISU

my current assessment - If KSU and OSU are in BCS, ISU goes to san diego

If only OSU is in BCS, ISU goes at large

Sounds to me like Mizzou a lock for pinstripe either way.

Yahoo latest projections have mizzou in the holiday and us in the pinstripe. Wow they apparently allow their writers to do their job while being on crack.

I wonder why they came up with top 16. Top 10 makes sense (5 bowls, 10 spots, if a non AQ team is in the top 10 they can get a spot), but top 16 forces the bowls to take a team over several more qualified ones.

Because you have top 14 to be an atlarge you had to make that number close to that

Found $438 from DSM to San Diego on Kayak, but the flight times are pretty inconvenient. Cheaper still, if flying into Palm Springs or Orange County/Santa Ana or from Kansas City/Omaha.

Yeah, this is true. Also part of why driving the whole thing might be an option.

Excellent excellent point. If the regular season is a playoff BS really was how it is - Alabama got their chance and they are eliminated. Great post
