***Big 12 Preseeds (Mon.)/Brackets (Wed.)***

Sorry if i am misunderstanding but don’t you normally get advancement/pin pts for the bye if you win your next match? We will just have to do that!

What does this mean? Sounds like it's bad?
You can only score bonus if the match is wrestled. Since 6 of our 7 of our seeded wrestlers got byes they can only gain advancement points... Lot's of bonus points are typically scored in first round matches in a seeded wrestler over a non-seeded wrestler. Mizzou could get out to a big lead based upon the "random" draw. I don't know why I'm putting quotes around random but it does make it seam more sinister ;)

Initial thoughts:

-Of course we have 6 seeded BYE’s. Mizzou didn’t need help winning the title but got plenty of it with their match ups. OSU’s unseeded wrestler faces the 8 seed.

-Cabanban can win his first two matches, and if he does he steals a bid. I don’t hate his draw at all.

-Casey obviously can beat Carlson but if it’s 0-0 or he’s down after 1, he’s in trouble. Carter Young after that is a tough match up for Casey. If he loses to Carlson he’d get the loser of Hart/Happel on the backside. If he beats Carlson and loses to Young, he’d get Nunez of Cal Baptist, then likely Titus, Droegemueller, or Greenwood. If he lost to one of those 3 he’d be in the 7th place match.

At 141 it is crucial that he beats Carlson. If he loses, he will have the loser between Happel/Hart. I don't mind the Happel matchup, but much harder than Nunez from Cal Baptist.

Yes, but you have to win the second match to get any points for the first. That's why the first-round matches are important in the team race.

A wrestler with a first-round match could get 3 points (fall+adv), whereas a guy with a bye would get 0 to reach the same spot.

Two years ago, when OSU and OU tied for the title, OSU had 8 of 9 seeds go in round 1 while OU only had 1 of 8. The result was 16 more team points for OSU just in that round.

I means Mizzou gets a massive unfair advantage that makes zero sense. We’re basically starting the game in a two touchdown hole.
So it lowers our likelihood of winning the B12 due to loss of bonus points, but increases the likelihood of achieving an NCAA slot (by avoiding 1st round upset)?

Yes. I’m not really worried about half of our lineup getting at larges when they are top 10 guys. Give me the extra matches and points.

Do you just get advancement points if you win your next match or do you get fall/pin pts for the bye if you win your next match?

Why do they still do random draw?
The first 4 seeds should get byes then random draw for seeds 5-8.

Generally, if the byes are predetermined, then those first-round matches aren't scored for the team race. Technically, that practice (predetermined byes) is frowned upon:

When byes are required for the first round, they should be placed by mutual consent or drawn randomly, in such a way so that they are distributed evenly throughout the bracket. No half, quarter or eighth of a bracket shall have more than one more bye than its paired bracket. Tournament committees may use alternate methods for assigning byes in the first round of a tournament, as long as byes and/or resulting first round pigtail matches are distributed randomly

Also, with 13 guys, only 1-3 would get a bye. 4-8 would each have a match.
