***Big 12 Preseeds (Mon.)/Brackets (Wed.)***

Just saw this on the ol' Tweeter feed and thought I'd share for those of you lucky enough to be going. No schadenfreude on my part at all even though I'm not going. Just info for those that ARE going so your prepared for it... yep. ;)

Hopefully they get this fixed before next year. I told Little JM a couple years ago that we would finally go to the Big 12s for David’s senior year.

Most of us will come down Friday since the first session starts at 10 on Saturday so should be fine traffic-wise. And traffic should hopefully be light on the weekend for folks staying outside of downtown. See y'all there!

Yes, but you have to win the second match to get any points for the first. That's why the first-round matches are important in the team race.

A wrestler with a first-round match could get 3 points (fall+adv), whereas a guy with a bye would get 0 to reach the same spot.

Two years ago, when OSU and OU tied for the title, OSU had 8 of 9 seeds go in round 1 while OU only had 1 of 8. The result was 16 more team points for OSU just in that round.

Hello- Can you confirm that the advancement point is awarded for a bye if you win the next match? I'm confused a bit.

Here's last year's results from Trackwrestling for Attasauov:

Ramazan Attasauov (16-7) placed 3rd and scored 12.5 team points.
  • Quarterfinal - Ramazan Attasauov (Iowa St.) 16-7 won by major decision over Garett Lautzenheiser (West Virginia) 1-2 (MD 8-0)
  • Semifinal - Daton Fix (OK State) 4-0 won by major decision over Ramazan Attasauov (Iowa St.) 16-7 (MD 13-3)
  • Cons. Semi - Ramazan Attasauov (Iowa St.) 16-7 won by decision over Anthony Madrigal (Oklahoma) 12-10 (Dec 2-1)
  • 3rd Place Match - Ramazan Attasauov (Iowa St.) 16-7 won by decision over Sidney Flores (Air Force) 8-2 (Dec 8-5)
When I try to calculate his score I get:

Quarterfinal = 1 adv pt + 1 Maj Dec + 1 adv pt for BYE in Champ Rd 1
Semifinal = 0
Cons Semi = 0.5 adv pt
3rd Place = 10 placement pt

Total = 13.5 (Not the 12.5 from Trackwrestling results)

I have the same problem with Degen from last year:

Jarrett Degen (18-5) placed 4th and scored 10.5 team points.
  • Quarterfinal - Jarrett Degen (Iowa St.) 18-5 won by decision over Jeff Boyd (West Virginia) 2-3 (Dec 3-1)
  • Semifinal - Willie McDougald (Oklahoma) 12-5 won by decision over Jarrett Degen (Iowa St.) 18-5 (Dec 5-4)
  • Cons. Semi - Jarrett Degen (Iowa St.) 18-5 won by decision over Josh Edmond (Missouri) 4-2 (Dec 15-13)
  • 3rd Place Match - Colin Realbuto (N. Iowa) 3-1 won by decision over Jarrett Degen (Iowa St.) 18-5 (Dec 8-6)

Quarterfinal = 1 adv pt + 1 adv pt for BYE in Champ Rd 1
Semifinal = 0
Cons Semi = 0.5 adv pt
3rd Place = 9 placement pt

Total = 11.5 (Not the 10.5 from Trackwrestling results)

I can match Carr's however:

David Carr (21-0) placed 1st and scored 22.5 team points.
  • Champ. Round 1 - David Carr (Iowa St.) 21-0 won by fall over Giano Petrucelli (Air Force) 5-4 (Fall 4:54)
  • Quarterfinal - David Carr (Iowa St.) 21-0 won by tech fall over Jaxon Garoutte (Utah Valley) 6-9 (TF-1.5 7:00 (18-3))
  • Semifinal - David Carr (Iowa St.) 21-0 won by decision over Jacob Wright (Wyoming) 19-6 (Dec 7-4)
  • 1st Place Match - David Carr (Iowa St.) 21-0 won by decision over Jared Franek (North Dakota State) 2-1 (Dec 8-2)
Champ Rd 1 = 1 adv pt + 2 fall
Quarterfinal = 1 adv pt + 1.5 tech fall
Semifinal = 1 adv pt
1st Place = 16 placement pt

Total = 22.5 (Matches 22.5 from Trackwrestling results)

Confused - am I missing something?

Confused - am I missing something?

The way they set the brackets up in TrackWrestling in previous years was, frankly, stupid. It resulted in having to go back and manually add the bye points later. So they were in the team total, but not attributed to the individual wrestler like they should have been.

I knew you would have the answer! The Shadow knows!

Thanks, my friend - I am less confused now than I was this morning.

They were using a 12-man bracket instead of 16, so the byes weren't showing or calculating. With 13 teams this year, they finally are using a 16 bracket that shows the byes (which they should have been using all along).

That actually makes sense to me, believe it or not. There will be one more consolation round to account for byes with a 16 team bracket - right?

Hey. Who let all of the wrestling threads fall off of the first page. I don't like it. Gotta get my fix every couple hours.

Do we know anything about the 125 8th seed replacement or if there'll be a redraw yet? I really liked the draw there. Would suck if it got messed up.

Some thought it would be Witcraft, who was already the opponent. Would be simple to leave it alone, so that probably won’t happen

Who did the seeding and brackets? Willie and guys like that again?

One of the unseeded wrestlers would get voted up to 8th. Depending on who it is (and where they were in the original bracket), there may or may not be an entire redraw of the weight. I can see them leaving it alone if the move doesn't unbalance the byes.

This is closer to where I’m at but I would be so excited if 5 made the finals. I don’t think both Zach AND Paniro will though. And some of these weights I bet get really really weird with placing. Happens every year.

Just checked and the 125 bracket still lists Griffin. I wonder if they'll update the original document or if it'll be released supplementally in some way.

My nervous energy is already starting to build today. Getting really excited for tomorrow.

The coaches meeting isn't until later this afternoon/evening, which is when any changes would be made.
