***Big 12 Preseeds (Mon.)/Brackets (Wed.)***

Official predictions from the brackets:

125: 5th place- I think he beats Poulin and Mauger to start, then loses to Cardinale. I think Poulin beats him in the consi semis, but he beats Elijah Griffen from Cal Baptist for 5th. We have our first qualifier.

133- 2nd- I am guessing we have a better cut from Redding this week and he gets revenge on Leake. Redding also has Bisco's number, and I think we get a finalist here. He isn't beating Fix though. Second to qualify for NCAAs

141- 4th- I think Casey knocks off Carlson in round 1 (even though that would be a big upset), then I have Carter Young beating Casey in the quarters. Casey then goes on a run, beating Nunez from Cal Baptist, gets revenge of Titus from WVU, and then takes out Happel in the consi semis. He gets a rematch with Young for 3/4, but loses 4-3 giving up a RT point. 3rd qualifier for NCAAs.

149- 1st- I like Paniro in a rematch over Mauller. Mitch Moore is tough, and Realbuto is no slouch to get past and make the finals, but I think we see a motivated Paniro and he gets his offense going against both Mitch Moore and Realbuto. 4th qualifier

157- 7th- I don't see Kraisser beating Gfeller. He drops to the backside, but beats Hornfeck from WVU to avoid going 0-2 in the tournament. He then gets beat by Jacob Wright knocking him to the 7th/8th place match. He then wrestles Vinny Zerban from UNCO and beats him with a 3rd period rideout to become the 5th qualifier for NCAAs.

165- 2nd- I would absolutely love to be wrong here, and honestly can't believe I'm predicting this as I type it out, but I said before the Mizzou dual that I think these 2 split in their first 2 matchups with the rubber match in the NCAA finals. I'll stick too that and say he loses a controversial match against O'Toole in the finals that we all ***** about Carr getting screwed, but David gets his revenge on March 18th. 6th qualifier

174- DNP- Absolutely hate this draw for Julien. I think he loses to Mocco, then beats Hastings because Hastings isn't quite healthy. Then he loses to Runyon for the DNP and we have to pray for an at-large (but think that is a long shot).

184- 2nd- I think Marcus is a step above Wittlake, but it will be close (like all Wittlake matches are). Keck is just an animal, and I hope Marcus proves me wrong, but until he does you have to pick Keck over him. 7th qualifier

197- 1st- I think the time off will be good for Yonger to get healthy and get his mind right. He unleashes hell against the poor soul that has to wrestle him first, wins a more comfortable than the score indicates match against Bockman, then beats Rocky to make the finals. I wouldn't be shocked to see Surber upset Sloan in the semis, and then Yonger beast Surber by 3-4 points in the finals. It will be pure bliss hearing the silence from the Okie State fans after Yonger shuts them up. 8th qualifier

Hwt- 2nd- The semi-final match against Elam will be tough, but I think Sammy has proven himself time and time again this year that I will pick him. Hendrickson is a beast on top, but Sammy is better than Wyatt from neutral. I think Hendrickson chooses top and turns Sammy once and wins because of the back points. Hope Sam proves me wrong here.

The above is probably pretty damn close to best case scenario (outside of David and Sam winning in the finals), but I think the time off and being battle tested will be huge for the team. Whether the above scenario is enough for us to win the big 12 or not will really depend on bonus points. Hopefully the guys come out hungry looking to score points Saturday.

With Hornfeck going for WVU instead of Dowling, 157 will be down to 6 NCAA bids.

Updated 157 prediction: Kraisser gets 7th for team scoring purposes, but wrestles Holschlag for true 6th after not knowing if they are actually wrestling for true places all tournament, and beats him with a ride-out to qualify for NCAAs. 9 qualifiers

I heard Griffen isn’t wrestling so 125 may be re-drawn

I like it.

I’ll give it my best crack at it

125 - 6th. Gets the first two wins to secure his spot but it’s a lot of wrestling for someone who missed as much time as he has. 125 isn’t a very good weight in the Big 12.

133 - 2nd. I agree with you, gets revenge on Leake after a better cut/weigh in recovery, beats Biscoglia again but Fix is a wagon.

141 - NP. I just can’t get on board until I see it. He’s capable of beating anyone in this weight class (aside from maybe Alirez), but his mat game could be a killer here.

149 - 2nd. Gets through Realbuto but Mauler clearly is tough for Paniro to score on and won’t do anything offensively. It’ll be a 2-1 or 3-2 match.

157 - 6th. I just feel like Kraisser has been fairly consistent this year and gets it done. He has the tank where if he keeps it close in the 1st, he’s got a great shot to win most matches.

165 - 1st. O’Toole could wrestle a lot more defensive this go around, but I don’t think that’s his style. Askren has probably spent every free minute of the last few weeks scouting David, not enough.

174 - NP. Tough Draw. He is capable but gives up his legs too easily. Will wrestle tough until the end like our entire lineup does but it’s just not enough. He could get a throw or something to make the bracket interesting though.

184 - 2nd. Marcus has been so good this year and has been consistent. Guessing a few weeks rest is good for him too, but Keck is just that good too.

197 - 3rd. Loses to Elam but beats Surber or Sloan for 3rd.

285 - 2nd. I want to pick Sammy to win and he can take out Hendrickson from Neutral, but I fear him trying to get out. Hendrickson is a pinning machine.

I’m usually a half full guy and I want to believe but man, there’s a lot of optimism in here. I hope I’m missing something and could be. It seems like David Marcus and Sammy are the only ones that have really proven to be consistent. I would be tickled pink if Redding made the finals.
