Another arrest

You do realize that's the point right? They want you to think and plan ahead, so someone isn't intoxicated can drive.
It's pretty stupid to not plan ahead.

I agree. I always have to plan ahead. But that's usually not "easy". That was my point. If it was so easy, there wouldnt be so many OWIs.

That's the thing here. I think 19 year olds and plenty of other people do dumb things. We all do. It doesn't make them less dumb. I also don't think people on CF should come down on him like a load of bricks, but this is something. It's not just boys being boys so it's ok.

This is one dumb thing that I think we should expect our BB players not to do. If you drink, call someone for a ride. Hoiberg himself would probably come and drive!

I think 78s nonchalance to DUI is dumber than the bye bye Matt post. Also the post about self righteousness is pretty dumb too.

I thought the same thing. If it was a drinking ticket, then yeah I really could care less. But driving drunk isn't just a simple mistake that is to be brushed off, no matter if the kid is just a college kid.

I don't think he should get any shade of gray. He broke two laws. One of which can kill others. Could he get forgiveness if it is the first offense? Maybe, but what consequence will persuade him not to do it again? I don't think it is too awful to miss a few games.

I think he should be punished both legally and by Fred. To what extent he misses games can and should be based on the facts IMO. My beef is with the hypocrisy and disproportianate outrage some have when this subject matter comes up. You bring up killing someone, you ever go over the speed limit? You know thats breaking a law that could result in someones death. The fact is neither act results in a death very often, but death is only frequently mentioned with one of the laws being broken. Again, I think drunk driving is bad and those caught should be punished. I don't have a problem with the current .08 BAC and laws. I just think a certain segment goes way overboard treating every OWI like it is attempted murder.

Hopefully, he was not with any teammates when he was drinking under age. Otherwise, the team may have a culture of drinking problem considering Nader's OWI.

Lol, there is a culture of having a drinking problem for college students all over, student athletes are not exempt. Unfortunately seeing other people get burned doesn't stop the issue from occuring, again and again regardless of the spotlight on the individual.

I disagree with the pretty easily part. I don't drive over a .08, anymore, but its a big pain in my ***. The pathetic .08 litmus test is easy to reach. I have to be careful to monitor how much wine or beer i have at when out to dinner. I have to be careful when watching a game at a buddy's. or grilling. Or at any event where alcohol is involved. And I have to ensure someone is under a .08 to drive home from tailgating. Notice i didnt say able to drive home safely. Plenty of people are perfectly capable at a .1

Ugh, it's such a pain in the *** to always be aware of the consequences while going about my actions!

I haven't read the entire thread, have we blamed the police yet?

No, I'm pretty sure it's only on the phase of non drinkers condemning the culture of drinking, because you know, if anyone knows about the culture surrounding alcohol it would be people that don't touch the stuff.

You can consume alcohol and still know that drinking and driving is really stupid to do.

Such insight. Here I was led to believe that everyone that enjoyed a few beers here and there all thought driving **** faced was a great idea.

If a 10 mile cab ride didn't cost you a tank of gas, less people would make the risk of driving drunk.

The Des Moines cab fares are outlandish. Have to be some of the highest in the country. The same parent company owns Capital Cab and Yellow Cab, which is part of the problem. Cabbing from downtown to the western suburbs will cost you over $40.

You don't have to be a regular drinker to be well-versed about the culture surrounding drinking. Just ask anyone whose had an alcoholic parent, sibling, relative, friends, boss, coworker, etc.

I would say those people have a pretty poor understanding of the culture surrounding drinking given that most adults who drink are not alcoholics despite what you may think.

We're going to have to just completely disagree on that. You may think you understand, but it's going to be fairly clear to anyone that can handle having a few drinks on a regular basis that you really don't have a clue.

We get it you hate alcohol. This is like a broken record everytime something like this comes up.
