I've seen Lanning play 4-5 times and he played very little defense, and several were play-off games. He's probably a good enough athlete to have a shot at safety, and maybe he will play there a lot this year. But if he develops some touch on his shorter passes, I find it hard to believe somebody won't be wanting him as a qb as he's an excellent runner with a rocket arm. It will be interesting to see how he develops at qb and/or safety this year and where he ends up since we already have several good young qb's. I believe his Nebraska connection is that he had a brother play baseball there, and he's now in the minors. Probably still can't rule out baseball for Lanning.
