Stop Playing Iowa

If we could consistently beat UNI and Iowa, would people still not want to play them? These games are good for the fans, and a win against one of them is a lot more fun than one against someone like San Jose St.
We have plenty of things to complain about, but I bet winning would cure a lot of it.

I think most Iowa fans know what the national media thinks of them and outside of squabbling on twitter about it they don't really care. I would take their seasons from 2002 until now at ISU if it meant the the rest of the college football world though ISU was worthless.
At this point we would lose to many Iowa high school teams. Its not because of Iowa we are 0-2...
The issue is not Iowa, it is ISU. Iowa is a pretty good football team this year. You couldn't always say that in the past. That being said, I don't know if ISU could beat a bad Missouri Valley team the way they played on Saturday.
ISU needs to get a lot better in general to play with anyone. Probably not going to happen this year, and maybe not next year. Not going to worry about Iowa until ISU can handle UNI.

I don't think Iowa is a national power. I think Iowa is a historical Top 25ish football program, with a nationally relevant team once every 5-10 years. The numbers back up my thinking of what they Iowa football program is.
Iowa would have beaten LSU in 2016 (that's more because LSU was an overrated SEC!SEC!SEC! team more than Iowa being an elite powerhouse) - look at the positive national pub Wisconsin got just for playing that game, let alone for winning it.
Iowa certainly might lay a turd or two if they're matched up against top 10 schools, but then Iowa's the one in the position with nothing to lose rather than being on the other side of that equation. Games against schools in Texas, Florida, California, Georgia, etc. are all highly preferable for Iowa for recruiting purposes vs. a game against ISU. Heck, even a game against Arkansas would be fun with Beilema down there, that game is much more high profile in most years than Iowa vs. ISU (Bielema has made comments about wanting to schedule Iowa supposedly).
EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting an end to the series - just rotating every other year. Think that's a good outcome for both schools.

Again, you just joined on Friday and you're an ISU fan so why are you coming at me? If you're implying ticket sales as the reason that's stupid, ISU was going to sell a ton of tickets for the home opener regardless who we were playing. It's not like we make $500k more off playing UNI than we would anyone we scheduled
ISU has won 5 of the last 14 (.357). That 5 game winning streak gets further away every year.
Like I said, one of our easiest games every year.

Facts: KSU, KU, and Baylor all utilized incredibly soft scheduling to help pick their program up off the mat. It was a key component in their building process.

Facts: If we were a program that was winning 100% against UNI and a majority against Iowa, well that would be a program in a much better place than the program we have today. And what would make sense for scheduling for a program like that would be much different than what we need now.
.... Seriously, this is a program in desperate need of momentum, of building a brand, of exposure, of a change of culture. All of these things come from winning. We can't change the B12 makeup. We can't easily change our bottom of the league budget. We can't change where Ames is located. We can't change the local talent pool. But we can do more to stack the schedule in our favor. Why wouldn't we do it?

I'm an Iowa fan who actually respects Iowa State and hopes the Cyclones win 11 of the 12 games they play each year. If I had my way, I wish the Iowa/ISU series went to a 2 years on/2 years off rotation. That allows every player who plays 4 years in each of the respective programs to experience the game in both teams' home stadium.
In addition, it would allow Iowa and ISU a bit more flexibility in their scheduling. If ISU wants to load up with lower-tiered teams a la Kansas State and Baylor to help with bowl eligibility, great. If ISU wants to replace Iowa with a home and home against a team located in an area the Cyclones wish to recruit, fantastic. Same way with Iowa. With the B10 now going to a 9-game conference schedule, it is impossible for Iowa to schedule a home and home with another Power 5 conference team if ISU is still on the schedule.
This proposal preserves the rivalry while, at the same time, allows both schools to explore other scheduling options.
