Temporary panic - ISU AD resigns (Illinois State)

A headline popped up on my phone, "ISU AD resigns...".

It turns out to be Illinois State's AD.

Not funny Google.

And the universe should already have an understanding that Iowa State is the only ISU.

Also - see how nice I was not to put "ISU AD resigns" as the subject line?

Network topology question

We have an eero 6+ system and currently the gateway and two extenders are connected wirelessly. Our home is equipped with ethernet ports in all rooms, which they never connected in the basement, but I am pretty comfortable with doing that. I want to eventually get the eeros on a wired connection for a little bump in speed to each. The diagram below from eero shows the modem to eero gateway to switch and then to two other eeros. My question is, if my modem is also a gateway (with wi-fi turned off) can I put the switch in front of all three eeros. My wife also has a gateway from her employer so we have another wireless network just for her. Can I plug all three eeros PLUS her gateway to the switch?

New CRTC Athletes

Nice to see Marcus and Sam sticking around. Getting Reineri in the room is HUGE for our lightweights and their development. He has a win over Gilman in 2020 and is an extremely high caliber wrestler for the CRTC.

CRTC announces additions of Coleman, Schuyler, and Ortega

Big news! Great to keep Marcus and Sammy around.

Who do I petition to find some NCAA eligibility for Ortega? Has wins over some of the best guys in the world, including thomas gilman.

Pickleball should be banned!

Hail damage and insurance dispute

Hey everyone, got a question to see if anyone else has had to deal with something similar. We live in a newly constructed house in north ames, so our roof is just a couple of years old. We were in an area that got leveled by the hail the other Friday.

Anything facing south on our property or any neighbors is destroyed. Sidings have holes and cracks every few inches and vinyl fence has holes everywhere.

The contractor also said we 100 percent have roof damage (which I anticipated based off everything else). Anyway, the insurance adjuster, travelers, came out and only used a drone to assess the roof.. Which they are claiming only had 3 hits and doesn't qualify for a new roof. Literally every single neighbor I've asked has said they're getting a new roof.. So I assume my roof wasn't miraculously spared.

The contractor is going to submit more photos to the adjustor of what they deem damage. But I'm not really sure what to do beyond that if they don't agree.

On That Note: Faith

Welcome to another edition of “On That Note,” CF’s weekly music series, co-hosted by @MeanDean, @cyclones500 and myself.

Only a couple of days removed from Easter, so we’re doing a religion-themed topic this week. We seek songs with at least one of the following words, in the title or lyrics (NOT band names):
  • Religion
  • Faith
  • Forms of pray (includes prayed, prayer, praying, but NOT “praise”)
  • Words for a place of worship (e.g., church, chapel)
  • Words designating an officiant (e.g., priest, pastor, minister)
CF’s moderation team gave us the green light for this topic, so we ask you to follow these additional requests:
1) Keep discussion specific to the songs.
2) Selections should come from non-spiritual genres, i.e., pop, rock, country, blues, et. al. … no traditional hymns.

Question on Social Media Strategy to help Cyclones

Looking at On3's NIL Values it occurs to me that a player's Instagram, Twitter and other Social Media followers has more impact than a player's on the field performance (but both are better).

If my assumption above is correct, should we encourage all Cyclone fans to follow our players to help improve their chance to get funded by corporate America?

For example, Omaha has the 28th Ranked NIL Value but is a higher rated recruit than Mikey Williams, yet Mikey blows Omaha out of the water in NIL value. Both are great players but Mikey has a huge social media following. Cyclone Nation may not be able to deliver millions of followers, but we tend to be more active with social media than other fan bases.

At the risk of be a creeper, my thought is if we follow all of our players, perhaps corporate America helps fund some of the NIL gaps. (Not that I plan on changing my strategy to support the We Will Collective).

Assuming the strategy is a sound one, is there a place where our athlete's social medial handles are published? Ideally: Player commits to Iowa State, social media handle is posted, player's NIL value bumps immediately. (or visa versa if they leave on bad terms). I can look them up on my own but the key is to get thousands of Cyclones to act - not dozens.

Lied expansion/renovation (WR, T&F)

Rumblings and rumors of new space are now official.

Actions Requested:
Recommend the Board approve the proposed:
Permission to Proceed with Project Planning for the: Lied Recreation Athletic Center – Remodel and Expansion project, including the Design Professional Selection process.

Lied Recreation Athletic Center – Remodel and Expansion
Executive Summary:
Iowa State University requests Board approval of the proposed Permission to Proceed with Project Planning to build a 16,000 square foot addition to the southeast corner and renovate 45,000 square feet (20% of the building) of ISU’s Lied Recreation Athletic Center. The estimated project budget of $22,000,000 to $23,000,000 would be funded by Private Giving and Athletic Department Operating Revenue.

Background: Built in 1990, the Lied Recreation Athletic Center is approximately 66 percent occupied by ISU Recreation Services and 34 percent by the ISU Athletic Department. The project would expand and collocate weight rooms, locker rooms and sports medicine areas for two ISU Athletics’ programs: Wrestling, and Track and Field. Recreation Services and the Athletic Department would exchange some space to improve adjacencies for both. Recreation Service’s space allocation would not decrease through this project.

New Collective for Wrestling

From Dresser’s newest email :

The landscape of college wrestling has changed so much since 2017 that my job doesn't even resemble what it was when I came to Iowa State. The last two years especially have changed the playing field like you can't even imagine. The advent of the transfer portal and most recently the explosion of Name, Image and Likeness (NIL), puts every D1 coach in uncharted waters.

I have never been this busy in the month of April. People ask me if I like the portal and all that is going on with NIL and athletes getting paid, and my response is that there are good things and bad things with both. But it doesn't matter because it is the reality. We must embrace it and pivot to cover this new territory.

Along these lines, I want everyone to be on the lookout for a brand-new collective that is being established to help our athletes with Name, Image and Likeness opportunities. The Right Now Collective will give athletes a chance to make some money with their Name, Image and Likeness! The Collective will be hosting an inaugural golf event in the Okoboji area in early June and many of our athletes and staff will be in attendance. The Right Now Collective is set up as a 501(c)(3) and all contributions will provide the maximum deduction allowable.

It is kind of cool to know that as a donor, you know your dollars can go directly into an athlete's pocket. It also is very important to note that all NIL money earned by each individual must involve some service in return. Tasks can range from live appearances by athletes at your event to mentions of your company on athletes' social media. So again, be on the lookout for the launching of the Right Now Collective! It will be a game changer for a lot of ISU student athletes.
