Has anyone purchased a new vehicle lately, the prices are off the wall.

After we sold our handicapped van last month, I started looking for a new vehicle to purchase, we wanted an SUV, really like the Toyota brand, so we have been looking at the new Grand Highlander. We went into a couple Toyota dealerships figuring we could order a new one, and then pick it up when it arrived, we are not in a hurry. Toyota does not take orders for new vehicles; they are allocated so many a couple of times a month and the wait time for the vehicle we want is 6 months up to a year or more. So, I started calling dealerships seeing what they had and could I purchase from them. Most dealers have a minimum $3,000 to $10,000 mark up on the Grand Highlander, or they want to put you on a waiting list, and will do so with a $500 refundable deposit, and then there is no guarantee that they can get you what you want, it's all luck of the draw.

Luckily being retired, I have plenty of time on my hands, and have been scouring the allocation list and phoning the dealers that are going to get the vehicle that we want. It's crazy out there, some dealers refusing to sell me a vehicle because they only sell within a 300-mile radius, others jacking up the price. I never thought finding a vehicle and willing to pay cash was so difficult.

Roster youth is not a positive

I’m tired of everyone claiming that ISUs young roster is a challenge with the insinuation that it will be a future benefit. In todays world of roster turnover, the future is now.

**** programs care about 6 wins for bowl eligibility and **** programs need multiple years to rebuild.

Unrealistic expectations for ISU, I am well aware, but it’s also todays reality.

Wiring question

Got a new fan WITHOUT a light but with a remote. There is a light switch in the room that turned the old fan on/off. In the ceiling I have black, white, red, and metal ground. On the fan I have white, Black, and green. I wrapped the red up by itself, white to white, black to black, and green to ground. Nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Ohio Predictions

Well it’s the day before game day less than 24 hours to go and no thread on this game. I’m not overlooking it unlike the rest of you. A loss here would pretty much be a season-killer.

Win conditions for this game are no different than the rest of the season: defense is stifling. Rocco throws no picks. We don’t screw up on special teams. Offense is good enough.

Some “nice to sees”: OLine is assertive in the run game. one of Norton or Sama becomes the primary 2-3 down back for the rest of the season. Receivers do anything more than the bare minimum.

Some potential horrible signs:
Continued horrid rushing game. More WR drops. Rocco throws multiple picks. We allow more than 17 pts.

Verdict: winnable game that we *should* win comfortably. Doesn’t mean we will. As long as we walk outta there with a W I’m happy.

Last Night

No, not related to Morgan Wallen....
Did anyone happen to see the sky last night from roughly around 11:45 pm (we think, didn't have our phones) facing NE? We live in Urbandale and were out riding our bikes. We looked up and happened to see a weird phenomenon occur. It wasn't directly but caught the tail end of it based on how bright it was. I don't think it was a falling star. I don't know if a meteor hit our atmosphere and blew up? I don't know if it was star related? Something else? UFO?!? haha. We just thought it was crazy because of how bright it was and what transpired so quickly. I think it only lasted about 5-10 seconds at most.

UNRL University Drop

Nice brand but these aren't as cool as I would of hoped for $98

Friday OT - Can You Hear Me Now?

I just got my new iPhone ordered. I started as an Android user, but Apple is so ubiquitous and I had a ton of Apple Music, so it made sense to switch.

My daughter has an iPhone, too, which I do love for the “Find My” functionality. No wondering where she is.

I know this is a divisive topic - but what is your phone brand and why?

That Perkins Disappointment

Okay, so I looked it up. Turns out that Tyler Perkins is actually…SECOND in FBS in punting. Gasp! Moan! Despair!

Okay, so he has almost twice as many attempts as the first place guy, but…the horror! Fire CMC and that Langes guy!!!

What's your favorite movie from the year you were born?

I saw this posted somewhere on social media this week, had some fun asking the question to others, thought I'd throw it out here. When I first saw the question, a particular movie came to mind, but then I wanted to research other well-known movies from that year to see if any other choices would change my mind. None did and I stick by my choice of.....

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

What would be yours?

New Toilet?

While preparing for my colonoscopy. I had a lot of time to sit and think. One of the things that came into mind was "I'm 6'2, fat, and old. Why am I sitting on an 18 year old toilet designed for a child?". I have three in the house that I'd like to replace but I'm going to just start with one and had some questions.

  1. Do they come with everything I need. Like gaskets and such. If not, what do I need?
  2. I'm going to go with the chair height ones. I'd like to keep each one under $300. I plan on going with traditional flush instead of the two flush thing on top like those weird Europeans use.
  3. One Piece or Two?
  4. Glacier Bay, Kohler, or American Standard?
  5. What do I do with the old toilet? How do I get rid of it?
  6. Anything else I need to know about the install?

Saw this making the rounds on Twitter. Apparently it's somewhat normal for dudes to just always be thinking about the Roman Empire? Who knew?

What say you, Fanatics?

What is the oldest item you use on a regular basis?

Last time I was at a tailgate a guest commented on the crock pot I had the sauerkraut in for brats. "My Mom had one that years ago," they noted. This hit me about something that I never had thought of...that crockpot was a wedding gift in 1982! It is in excellent shape, and works fine, though the nob can fall off. It was made by West Bend and is now a tradition and a "go-to" for making stew, slow cook roasts, and BBQ, and it is over 40 years old!

I have very old rings, watches, china, and furniture which are sort of in use but the crock pot above is one I use without thought regularly. What do you have that you find reliable and useful that comes in use maybe daily, weekly, or monthly or so that is the oldest thing in your possession?

Colonoscopies save lives!

It can be scary and uncomfortable to get a colonoscopy, but we know they save lives.

This can be a lighthearted and fun thread to discuss our experiences with colonoscopy.

I got my first at age 32 (since my mom had colorectal cancer at 42, it’s recommended to get one 10 years earlier). Then had a follow up at 37. One polyp on that one, so I’m on deck again at 40.

The preps were actually kind of fun as an experiment - it’s amazing what’s inside of you o_O
