Working on Juneteenth?

We have a number of holidays, and this one isn't recognized yet. But our PTO dollars are the same bucket as holidays, so anyone can take it off if they want, but the company is open. We are an extremely large health organization with the last 3 CEOs being black, so I find it a little surprising. But it's a religious organization and doesn't recognize Good Friday either.

I think it comes down that it wouldn't matter if it was a recognized holiday or a chosen holiday to take off, it would still decrement 8 hours from your PTO bucket. The difference is that I wouldn't get backed up on work if everyone was off.

If I remember correctly, we didn't observe Juneteenth itself as a direct holiday, but instead added an additional floating holiday for everyone which was prompted by Juneteenth.

I just scheduled said floating holiday for July 3rd, actually.

We had three floating holidays at one point.

A few years ago, one of them was converted into MLK Day for everybody.

Still have two but Juneteenth isn't a "free" one.

Negative at one of (if not the) largest aerospace, not even an attempt at education from what I have seen. We do get 12 company holidays though including the full week between Christmas and New Years and two days and Thanksgiving. City of Marion is doing normal collection today as well.

Working.

It's not a Union Holiday in this round of the CBA for the trades on site, so we are going full steam ahead.

We get: New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Day After, Christmas, and then one floating holiday (used to be good friday).

Weirdest thing I saw was in NY where the labor agreement had Veterans day as non working holiday, but the day after thanksgiving wasn't. That put us in a tricky labor situation. Couldn't close the job as we'd have had to pay everybody, but we only got about 50% attendance on that day.

That's what we get. Used to be off on Christmas Eve, but as the company became more diverse religiously, it became a floating holiday. Office is still technically closed Christmas Eve though.

It’s called Presidents’ Day now as it is supposed to honor Washington and Lincoln.

We used to get Presidents Day or MLK Day off (can't remember which) but when Juneteenth became a national holiday, our company switched from it to a floating "Diversity Day" you can use whenever. Would have preferred to have my cake and eat it too.

Yup, the bolded is our holiday schedule as well.

Working at a Des Moines metro Civil Engineering firm. I can't speak for all of them, but I know most other CE firms in the metro are also working.
