Working on Juneteenth?

Worked. We get 10 holidays off and Exempt Employees have unlimited flex time so no complaints that company didn't add another holiday. Most our hourly Employees work 12 hr shifts since 24x7 manufacturing so they only work 3 or 4 days a week already

Did you ask him why he went out to eat when the server should have had it off also?

I’ve found it confusing for people upset about working on a holiday because they wanted to do other things on that day, which would require other people to work on that day.

I didn't. It was the second restaurant we tried to go to. I'm guessing he said that because he works for the state and did get the day off. I'm a contractor for the state and did not.

It was a day off, but I worked because I could get stuff done without constant interruption and meetings. Taking off later in the week, so I’ll just count the day towards that.

Just curious how different employers are handling the Juneteenth holiday. It's a full on holiday for my company. We're entirely closed. My wife's employer gave people an extra day of PTO, and the option to take it off, but the company is open.
I was off today but my wife who works as a recruiting manager was not

Hey @isufbcurt is your company making you work today?

LOL No, but my wife is.

Stained the deck, now I'm getting ready to mow, then I need to finish up the racecar for races coming up this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Well I guess I just did payroll for three clients, so yeah I worked some.

It's the last fiscal week of the quarter.

Totally worked today.

I have to be honest, with a day like today or MLK Day (which I also dont get off) I do hope theres some reflection for those that do get it off. Not that anyone should feel guilt but just know the true reason why.
If anyone wants an idea on what to do, I've long told my wife to donate blood on MLK day as just something good to do that only takes an hour out of her day off.
(Not that donating blood honors him, just a good, needed cause)

I had no idea about the history of it until it became a national holiday

There should be more 'go do something that helps others' messages for commemorative days/events.

My wife's employer sends out some of them to do the meals from the heartland packaging as team building. That's always sounded like a good cause.
