Will the BIG10 Reverse Their Decision?

If football is so important to universities and the communities, they would have found a way to make it work. Plans like keeping players in a bubble, remote learning for student athletes, minimize roster size, adhering to social distancing guidelines, day to day testing with expeditious results, mandatory masks, RAs hired by athletic departments to enforce the bubble environment, suspend players who violate, games played in empty stadiums, etc. All this is doable during a pandemic for one season in a multibillion dollar industry.

NCAA and/or all the conferences had many months to come up with a game plan and completely left it up to individual schools. The supposed leaders have completely shat the bed.
I think that presidents have an inflated view of the role of academics on most institutions. I think that there seems to be this idea that academia will not see drastic effects from not having sports. I think there are significantly more people that allow sports to influence their college choice than people like to admit. I would likely have gone to a private school that everyone else in my family had gone to. Iowa and Iowa State get a lot of people who just use it as fallback to make a choice. They are in our face so it’s kind of just a given that we would go there.

I also think money is a big factor too. If Iowa State would stop sports I would not give any money to the school and frankly wouldn’t probably go to Ames. Sports need to continue for these schools and cities to survive in their current form.

Honestly if the Big 12 and SEC pull this off this fall and the Big Ten misses out they'll fall to Pac 12 level status in the big picture of things nationally

I don't see this happening. The cash will be flowing again in 2021, and the Big 10 still has major brand names in Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, etc.

Unless Ohio State isn't in the conference and the B1G starts their games at 9 CST I don't see this happening.

They're missing an entire season of football. Do you realize how big of a deal that is? Financially, recruiting, fans, etc

Recruiting wise.. doesn’t take much for coach to say “ hey we have this pandemic What is f it returns or another one hits” you know big ten isn’t gonna play etc..

sure in 2021in the fall thins might return to some normalcy but losing out on$50-$60 mil is a ton.. Will take a decade to recoup

We’ll be stealing air time and press for this season, then next year college football will be about “the return of the Big10“ and how we’re so lucky they’re back and college football is back to normal again.

There won’t be any demotion of conferences or reshuffling of conference hierarchy.

It will hurt a few of the teams in the conference, but the fans aren't going anywhere. I think it's overstated how much it will affect recruiting. Once we get to 2021, it will be back to business as usual in the Big 10.

Couldn't disagree more

I'm not a huge Murph and Andy guy but they said it best about casual fans and the younger fans might switch to cheering for Iowa State instead of Iowa after watching us have a full successful season while the Big Ten teams are too scared to play

The tide has slowly been changing for the young fans and high school students in favor of Iowa State since the late 2000s. If ISU and the Big 12 complete the season, it will only speed it up faster. The baby boomer hawk trolls on here and post on Hawkeye Report are too ignorant (or just deny it happening) to even realize that their precious Hawks are becoming second fiddle.

I have had the thought that ISU does have an opportunity this year gain attention in the MW in general. I am sure many in Iowa watch EIU, Minny watch UofM and Nebraska watch Nebby just out of habit/tradition over any other program.
This year ISU will be on those TV sets on Saturdays. A very good time to have a top 20 program with a potential first round QB to pull in the random crowd. There is a big opportunity for ISU to move the needle nationally as a program.

I think that's true, especially in central Iowa, but there's still a long way to go to overcome the children of Hayden hawkeyes.

They'll turn into what the Pac 12 is currently pretty much

Id just like to hear the reasoning, trust me I’d love it to happen, but how? Are their media deals going to be voided from it? Are they not going to be able to pause any extra expenses for a year? Are their teams not going to be able to be competitive anymore somehow?

Maybe I’m wrong, I’ve just been thinking the B1G will survive, but the PAC will be ripe for the picking in realignment here in the next few years. That power 4 super conference thing could happen from this.
