Why was Wayne Morgan fired?

If we never get a 5 star player again that is fine with me. But man we are getting 3 star players that aren't that talented. We aren't beating out schools for some nice talent.

You are making it sound like GMAC is a great recruiter. He is not. He is not an average recruiter at best right now, and the only thing that makes him average is Brackins. Take away CB and he is doing a very bad job recruiting. VERY BAD

So I guess signing Colvin is "VERY BAD" according to you as well, huh? You are again wrong.

I was talking Brackins, Garrett, Colvin, and Wesley J.
And I was saying that they won't be left to using second hand connections and cold calling. Colvin is a Robinson connection, and thus doesn't fall under "drying up".

And I suppose that since Melvin Ejim and other recruits from the succeeding 2011 and '12 classes have already had unofficial visits, it'll be a very long time before we begin exploring your "interesting" scenario.

G'night, all.

If coaches were kept on staff because of future visits and possible future recruits, no coach would be fired ever....

Fixed that for ya. Keep up with the times, man, Keep up with the times!

You really have no clue how good Colvin, Gilstrap, Kadima, Staten, Dykstra, or any of the other recruits nowadays are, do you?

So, I'm just curious.....you are clearly a huge Gmac homer. I recall stating in a previous thread that there are some people on here that tend to have great expectations for players coming in, yet low expectations for the coaches during the season....which if you think about it does not add up. I think you are a really good example of this. What are you going to say next year if we do not perform well? This is an honest question...I don't need any of the Gmac apologists flaming me. What say you to this question?

*******, that's not what he was saying. Nice taking it out of context. Try following the discussion.

I am not reading through all this garbage. I threw it out there because that is a reason people are wanting to hold onto McDermott. ******, stay classy.

Rick!! You are killing me!!

Colvin makes one great get out of 9. 1 out of 9!!! How the hell does that make GMAC a great recruiter?

Colvin was a great get, a must get. But we also signed Boozer, Brister, Vette, etc. Mid major talent. To say that GMAC is a great recruiter is not true.

Our last 3 recruiting classes wouldn't fall into the top 50 on average

I doubt anyone on this board follows ISU or national recruiting as much as I do. So, I am fully caught up with the time

Gilstrap had never met GMAC before he committed to ISU. Does that make him a great recruiter?!?!

Out of all the players that you have listed, only Colvin appears to be a great get at this time. We know very little of the others. 2 of them are Iowa boys, and one had no high level D1 offers. Tell me again how they are big time recruits?!?!

Besides Colvin, we didn't beat out 1 school for any of the kids you mentioned. Not one school

Colvin and Gilstrap will improve the athleticism by boatloads. That will help tremendously.

The thing that worries me is what are we gonna do at SF after Gilstrap leaves and HB leaves Ames? We'll have a 4 guard, 1 big lineup.

and if this happens we will be in big trouble seeings how we don't even have 1 quality guard right now IMO

As bad as some of these games seem this season, I can remember wanting to scratch my eyes out at times during Morgan's last couple of seasons. There were games where our guys were lazy on D, would turn the ball over more than pancakes in an IHOP and just didn't seem to care about anything........that was much harder to watch than any of the games this yeas IMO.

Don't get me wrong, GMac's guys have made plenty of dumb mistakes, but there's no question that they're bustin' their butts out there and I guess I'd rather see a team make mistakes b/c they're trying too hard instead of not trying hard enough.

Agree with you twojman. I'd gladly take some of that terrible Morgan coaching that gets us post season wins and wins over highly ranked teams. The slams on Morgan get more ridiculous and more illogical as time goes on. He actually won a conference title at LBS but maybe he didn't fit in with the fat cat donors there any better than he did here. And actually I know somebody that knew Archibald and they said we would likely have been in the NIT in Morgan's last year had JP lobbied for a game. But you can't reason with the Morgan bashers who somehow think that bashing on a coach that could win like Morgan somehow makes GMac look better. I'll tell you what looks unorganized and undisciplined is a GMac team in the last few minutes of a close game when we usually fold. Give me Morgan's kind of "undisciplined" any day when we had winnng records, post season wins, and could occasionally knock off top 5 teams at home and on the road. I'm still waiting for GMac to knock off a top 25 team in year 3. I still have hope for GMac, but he was 1-2 against Morgan with his best UNI teams, and I've seen very little yet to make me think he's a good coach.

Jamie Pollard fired Wayne Morgan because he hates black people, that's what I think. He got rid of another black coach in Bobby Douglas too.

:jimlad::jimlad::jimlad::jimlad::jimlad::jimlad::jimlad::jimlad::jimlad::jimlad::jimlad::jimlad::jimlad::jimlad:

I highly doubt that about JP. Actually I doubt JP would have considered firing Morgan unless prodded by some big donors. Promoting Cael was a no brainer, and Bobby had made it clear that when Cael was ready he would step aside.

In all honesty, part of the reason JP wanted to fire Morgan had a lot to do with the fact that JP didn't originally hire Wayne-o. Its natural for a new AD to want to hire "his guy". Happens all the time. Same thing with football and wrestling....although many would agree that FB & BB were struggling, many times an AD will try to put a stamp on the athletic department by hiring his own coaches.

To follow up on my own response.....does anyone think that if JP did not originally hire Gmac, he would keep Gmac around after the three years (well 2+) that we have had? I think not.

:biglaugh: Like the long line of quality coaches that lined up after we got rid of Eustachy? Or hell even after Floyd?!?!

We are ISU, we are always going to have to take a mid major schools coach. Floyd, Eustachy, and McDermott. If we fired McDermott it would be the same way. To think it would be any different is laughable

Wait a minute, you do remember a certain ISU basketball coach named Johnny Orr, right? He was very successful at Michigan (Final Four; lost to Knight's undefeated IU team in the title game).

We won't always have to hire mid-major guys. It just so happened that Floyd and Eustachy were considered up and coming coaches at the time they were hired. I don't feel we "settled" for them because others turned us down.
