Where do we go at QB from here?

What would you do at QB?

Park is very talented , but he seems unstable. Not a good look for a any QB. Kyle seems very calm, even after throwing TD passes, you just see him on the bench sitting calmly. But his throws are a little slow, which may lead to interceptions. But Park has thrown multiple interceptions, even for a talented passer. I say give Kyle a start for the kansas game and let Park fight for his Job back if he decides to come back.

People seem to like the lanning taking snaps for short yards. We are thin in the Linebacker position and I don't want him getting hurt. Why not have warren and montgomery package, where they take a direct snap, I bet those guys can throw.

Laughable how many of you are so ready to move on from Park. The dude is the best QB ISU has seen in years.

Kempt played well for what we asked him to do today but his yardage numbers are super inflated by great individual plays by Ryan, Lazard, and Montgomery Teams will gameplan against him and will completely shut him down. There’s a reason he is a walk on and was 3rd behind noland.

If Park is healthy, he has to be the guy. I would like to see Lanning get used like he did today. 3rd and 1 should be Lanning running the ball. Not quick pass routes.
That was the difference between UT and OU. One QB got the ball in the hands of their teammate and let them make a play. The other didn't seem to trust their teammates to make play or felt like they had to do it all.

Like I said, some of you need to pump the brakes a little before giving our walk on quarterback the heisman.

Not giving Kempt the Heisman.

Why do you want to throw Kempt under the bus? Kempt is 1-0 as a starter.....against Oklahoma who we haven’t beaten in forever. He starts against KU. No question. He deserves it. Park played terribly against Texas.

Park may have the better arm, but Kempt’s throw to Lazard was beautiful. Park might have put that same throw in the stands. Or he might have thrown it so damn hard and high that Lazard’s catch would have been damn near impossible.

Or he might have put it perfectly into AL's hands.

I just hate how quickly this fanbase eats it's own with quarterbacks and it's fascination with backups. It never ends well for ISU or the backup. Ask Tiller. Or Barnett. Or Richardson. Or Rohach. Or Lanning.

I liked Kempt's decision making as far as where to throw, he didn't seem to make as many throws into double coverage as Park has in weeks past. I liked the guy, and the two headed monster as well under center. I'd roll this way until it doesn't work any more. In my opinion, this could be one of those Peyton Manning vs Ryan Leaf type situations, arm strength doesn't translate to decision making. The more athletic QB isn't necessarily the better QB.

Having Lanning come in for a few plays really keeps the defense guessing too, that was really fun to watch.

Sometimes you can find a diamond in the rough though. But it's such a small sample size, definitely need to see more.

Kempt played well in a very high pressure situation, that's about all we'll take away from this.

I get the love for Kempt and what he did, but it is sad to see how quickly some on here have given up on Park. He played poorly in the Texas game, and I'd bet he'd be the first one to tell you that. Not acceptable, but games like that do happen. Over 14 games at Iowa State, he's got pretty good numbers. You have to remember that he didn't play for 2 years!

I like Park and I know that he'll stop at nothing to do his best. This is my first season following the Cyclones so maybe I'm missing something, but I have just not really been that overly impressed by him. Listening to the podcasts leading up to the season I really started to get big expectations for him and I just haven't seen them come to life. Don't get me wrong, he's had some good moments but nothing that's really stood out to me. I think Kempt should get another shot against Kansas since it's a very low risk game and see how he does. If he's the same guys he was against Oklahoma, then keep him in, and if not give not, give Park another shot to get his starting role back. Either way, Iowa State needs to have made a choice they're confident in before the face Texas Tech.

I voted Kyle cus I like his demeanor. I think this team needs a steady eddy back there. Park is more of a riverboat gambler and is probably the better player, but I think we need a manager at qb this year.
Unbelievably to me was how Kempt stayed in the pocket. Seemed Park was scrambling even when he didn’t need to last week and that caused many problems.

Did Kurt Warner or Chuck Long have a gun for an arm? Too early to say if Kempt can be as accurate as those guys, but his throws seem to be just as catchable. Park has started around 10 games and his biggest W was a home game against Texas Tech. I don't think there should be a question about who starts next week.

Most on here have nothing against Park. He had a great game against Iowa, often moving the ball at will. But, in a team sport, if you make decisions that cause you to be unable to play, you haven't just let yourself down. You've also let your teammates, coaches and fans down. You have to earn that starting spot back. That may be difficult if your replacement is playing well. How you handle that says a lot about whether you deserve the starting job. Park may need some Lanning lessons. Park didn't just have a bad game against Texas, he completely went off the rails.

Wild how many people say this offhand like we didn't just see some other QB lead five straight scoring drives on the road against the #3 team in the country. That doesn't happen every day at Iowa State... in fact, it has NEVER happened before today.

CMC should let them battle it out now if Park is healthy and returns. Don't decide based on today alone but also don't just tell Kempt to go sit on the bench again and not give him a chance to stay in the driver's seat.

You are also comparing a balanced game plan compared to a, pin your ears back Texas, Park is going to throw every down offense. Play calling was much easier on the quarterback yesterday. Hopefully Manning learns from this.

And apparently (according to those at the game) he was a bit unhinged at Akron.

Obviously we don’t know what is really going on with him, whether it was just a simple failed drug test, whether a coach was trying to send a huge message, whether he is in a bad place mentally, or something else. And it doesn’t matter. He just needs to get better. If it is serious, he shouldn’t rush back. And if it isn’t serious, (I would wonder why they handled it the way they did) he needs to be ready to go but I think Kempt has earned the right to start next week.
