Could the receivers have made amazing plays because of the quarterback?
Yes, but not in this case. No one is saying anything bad about Kempt. He was really good today. In my opinion, the team has more upside with Park. He makes throws into tight windows that no one else can, especially in the middle. Kempt definitely looks solid though.

Kempt performance reminded me of Kyle Stanley's against us. He completed a high % of his throws, and didn't make any mistakes. But, they had him execute very simple plays. Almost every play was a screen, a quick dump off in the flat, or a quick throw to Lazard or Butler down field in man coverage to let them make a play. It was pretty much all pre-snap reads where he knew where he was going with the ball before the play even started. They only had him throw to the middle of the field like 2-3 times all game. That tells me the coaches don't trust him to make those throws and future teams will game plan to take away the easy throws to the side lines. The coaches did a great job of calling safe plays that he could execute well. Maybe he can make all the throws, and just didn't get a chance to show it yet. We may find out since I have a feeling Park might be gone for a while.

I keep hearing this notion that Park is so extremely talented and a future NFL starter. Yet his passer rating was the exact same as Lannings last year. And we all know Lanning is a terrible QB. Ergo...

Yeah, I can't think of many times he went past his second read in progressions. The playbook can't stay that simplified all season long. And he won't always have the advantage of playing a bad DC like Mike Stoops that refuses to play anything other than man-to-man single coverage despite being outmatched all game long.

This is a tough question to answer. Kempt played unbelievably well today, and I couldn't be happier for him or the team. Like others have said, maybe we need a QB that can be more of an Alex Smith, and game manage the **** out the offense. Take the shots when they are there, and get the ball to your playmakers. Smith isn't doing anything to crazy, but they are getting the ball to Hunt, Kelce, etc. and letting them make some plays.

If Park can settle down, and not try to Mayfield it all over the field, he is clearly the more talented QB. We first need to see what is even going on with him, and if this is a 1 week, 2 week, never see him again situation, though.

It’s almost like our playbook was super limited and that was the game plan..

Honestly, I think this was what went wrong in a lot of the Texas game. A lot of check downs into bad plays, when just running the first play was the best answer. The most disappointing thing about the TX game was that the coaching staff had so little faith in DM as a playmaker. The guy is truly special, as we all saw again today. I also agree with those who call for Park to just take the 5 yard run or the underneath pass unless someone is running free in the secondary. He just tries to do too much at times.

If Park has his head on straight, and his teammates and staff have as good of game as today, Park will have huge games. It also wouldn't hurt to face Stoops every week. He is 10 years past his prime.

why is iowa state always in this situation? whether it be jared barnett or sam b richardson. how does a guy who has never played always come in and tear it up when our starter gets pulled?

i will be very interested to see how kempt plays if he gets more starts going forward. like if we don't beat the brakes off ku next week imma be so disgusted

I have no faith in Park to make good choices...mainly because of the horrific f'n haircut.

After fighting with coaches & then this 'mystery' absence...I've got more doubts.
Jacob Park is one of the reasons we are back on the map. I totally get the case for Kempt, but Park is a huge reason our offense has any confidence at all. If he stops throwing across his body he could earn himself a huge paycheck next year.

Our QB should be whoever can get Montgomery and other playmakers the ball efficiently. One QB didn't do that at home against TX, one did on the road against Oklahoma. Lets go with the hot hand.
