Where do we go at QB from here?

What would you do at QB?

My vote is kempt... But again, not based on pure talent. But based on the way our coaches coach when he is playing. And because of his timing with the ball, and willingness to just float a ball to lazard when its the right play, even when covered.

Who the hell knows?

Park's passes (when he is on) look better, but maybe our guys have a better shot at actually holding on to Kyle's?

Park is easily a better passer. Not even close.
Better decision maker? Leader?
Also our coaches think Park needs to pass 45 times a game which hurts everyone.

I really hope this staff can get it in the kids' heads that "This is where we belong" not, "Oh look at us, lowly ISU beat OU" I've seen this play out, seems past coaches have played along with the media. I don't want this to be a "Signature win" I want it to be a more common occurrence. Seems past coaches have played into the media hype about huge upsets and signature wins. I want us going forward to believe this is what we can do, any day, anywhere.

Last year, I wasn't happy with the decision to bench Lanning. I would have stayed with Lanning as the starter all season long. I like Lanning's ability to move the chains and wear down the defense (along with DM). This year I would pick Kempt over Park based on what we saw today. I have a lot of respect for Park's arm, but his decision making hasn't been all that great especially on 3rd downs.

I love Park's talent and confidence, but if he isn't playing because of disciplinary reasons, failed drug test, etc, he needs to earn his starting position starting with attitude and hard work in practice. That's the way team sports work.

I do like how Kempt gave our big receivers a chance to make a play on the ball. Park overthrows them way too often.

But Park is a lot more talented. If Park had the same game plan against Texas that they had for Kempt today, that would have been a win IMO. Look at how often Kempt dumped it off to Montgomery in space, or Ryen, or Murdock, etc instead of just throwing deep all day. Park had none of that available to him against Texas' pressure.... mainly just deep routes that took too long to develop.

Some of that is Park's weaknesses though. At least 3 or 4 times this year Park could have automatically ran for a first down with nobody touching him but zipped an incompletion instead. Kempt did that today without hesitation even though he's a slower runner it seems. Park doesn't do the simple things to keep the chains moving at times. It's part of why I never thought it was a slam dunk to go with him over Lanning. Highest ceiling throwing the ball? Absolutely. Guaranteed best guy to get the W? I'm not sure.

If I remember right Campbell said in the interview right after the game, he is not a backup QB anymore so who knows. Park obviously has the better arm but if Kempt played against Texas, I tend to think ISU wins that game. he put the ball where WR's could make a play and he got better as the game went on. Also, I really liked his demeanor as someone mentioned. I might be speculating, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has more in the leadership category after what I saw in the Texas game.

Jared Barnett looked like the second coming of Joe Montana at one point too... let's pump the breaks, Kempt will get another shot against Kansas if Park is still not 100%. A 1 game (entire college career) sample size isn't A lot to go off of, but I know how Cyclone nation loves us some qb controversy.
If Park had played like Jacob Park against Texas there wouldn't even be a conversation. One bad game this year vs one great game.

He said he's not the 3rd string quarterback anymore.

I sort of agree with this, but a quarterback also has to be a leader. And I do think there is something to Park throwing too damn hard.

I dont disagree.. What I meant by my poorly worded post was Kempt is probably a better leader and decision maker. Our coaches also call a better game with him on field it seems.

Did Kurt Warner or Chuck Long have a gun for an arm? Too early to say if Kempt can be as accurate as those guys, but his throws seem to be just as catchable. Park has started around 10 games and his biggest W was a home game against Texas Tech. I don't think there should be a question about who starts next week.

I think Park is a ways away from being "ready to go"

I also think Kempt will come back to earth within the next two weeks. Sometimes you have a game where everything goes well, I'll be very surprised if he can sustain that high level of play. Hell, if he can, he needed to be the start from game 1!
