West Virginia Player Attacks Fan

It would be nice if ISU winning games like this was not a big deal, but honestly, if you look at the Cyclone's history in FB, they pretty much have sucked for a lot of years. Fans that sit though some of the beating that ISU has taken over the years need to celebrate big wins. So, it is rush the field or burn a couch, what looks more professional to you Dana?

They knew it was coming and worked towards staffing up security and securing the sidelines especially after the safety. Fact of the matter is they realized there was little to no stopping anyone and made efforts to help make it as safe as they could (helping students down but kept off the field before the game was over). We are in section D and had people heading down at that point as well so don't pin this on the students alone.

Outside of making a human wall with LOEs, ROTC and rent a cops 100 yards long to try and protect the visitors all the way to the locker room there is little you can do IMO.

I think i saw some of the WVU nonessential staff heading for the locker room about then too.

Rushed the field on Saturday. ;)

The player that went after someone hung around after looking at the crowd. He appeared to want to have someone say something, so that he could react. He finally got his wish and the staffer ushered him out.

Ironically, security was trying to direct us to the north end of the field; the same direction that WVU was going. We went straight on to the field.

You can't stop it. Trying to is exactly what resulted in people being crushed at Wisconsin. Several schools changed their policies, to allow rushing the field, for just that reason.

I think fans should be instructed to gather at the SEZ and rush that way and avoid an opponent leaving the field....even one sticking around hoping for a fight.

I’m of the mindset that there isn’t an inappropriate time to rush. I think rushing the field/court is part of what makes college sports great. I don’t know that a game like that was neccessarily worthy of a rush but oh well.

People that don’t like rushes need to get the stick out of their butt. It seriously is like the old man yelling get off my lawn.

Maybe there are legitimate logistical concerns regarding it but I think we’ve done a pretty good job historically. I’m sure there are safety improvements that should be looked at but rushing is really just about celebrating together.
I think my problem with rushing the field/court is that we are basically admitting that we didn't think we were as good as our opponent and should not have won but we did. In the past, this was definitely true. (I rushed in 2011 against Okie State) I think where our program is now, we can compete with the best teams in the nation and I want to expect us to win/be in those games.

Rushing the field is FUN!

Landed face to face with a cop first time over that wall. Quick swim move and into the crowd.

Last time I saw Ben Bruns. Had to basically jump just to smack him on the shoulder pad.

So, kids, jumping that wall is fun! But....there's a risk

And never mouth off to a man large enough to make you jump to hit his shoulder pads. These are young, large, possibly angry college athletes who earn an education in the weight room

If Big Ern was that worried about it, why didn't he use one of his 3 remaining timeouts with 30-60 seconds left in the game, waive at Campbell (or flip him off given what an ******* he's been) and pull his team off the field? It's not like he made any effort whatsoever to win in the last 2 minutes anyway and it was very obvious to anyone with a pulse that fans were coming out of the stands.

Side question, and maybe unrelated, but a year or so ago at an away game, one of the other team's fans was shining a laser light at one of our player's eyes. Does anyone remember that game and what team it was?

Unprofessional ... as Purdy was walking off the field after he threw the interception two WVU players sought him out then sandwiched him and talked some trash ... it happened fast but if you watch the replay it was pretty obvious what they were doing ...

Or in Will Grier's case, steroids

#2 on the West Virginia defense was talking trash the entire game. It was funny watching him get exposed various times

Don't like rushing the field....don't do it but let others have fun. It's a natural response to being emotionally invested in the game. It's what sports are about for fans.

This isn't an "act like you've been there" type of deal.

I get that it is an emotional game and trash talking happens but it seemed like WV was constantly barking at someone on our team.
