West Virginia Player Attacks Fan

Fans should wear helmets and have seatbelts in the bleachers. Sit down the entire game for safety sake. The PA announcer will have a button to release the seatbelts so that the future soylent green material can stand up and chant "first down!" as required. They will be required to sit back down and re-attach the seat belt under threat of security tazer. Absolutely no field rushing allowed.

My guess is ISU will look to move ISU student section to SE side so visiting team can exit field without being run over by students. The other option is to move students behind ISU bench like it was until last year.

I thought that one was odd too. I'm not sure I've ever heard of a personal foul for "pulling a player off the pile." WVU got away with at least two late hits on Purdy as well.

Ya, that's an apples to apples comparison. Everything leading up to the Akron game was somber as hell and the game itself about made half the fans in the stadium fall asleep. It's exactly the same thing as beating the crap out of a top 10 team in a hyped up night game.
Very true, Akron was a poor example due to off-field tragic events.

What I have gotten out of this is there are varying opinions out of rushing the field (as expected). But the good news is we are winning games against top programs and that is something everyone can be excited about. I don't care what fans want to do to celebrate, as long as we have a reason to that is fine by me!

His players are mostly thugs who come onto the field Saturday night BEFORE the game even starts and are chanting FU to our student section. So how do they think our student section will treat them after that?
Wut? Curious as to how most of WVU's players are "thugs".

W VA aside, the current set up is asking for problems. I thought Holgerson was smart sending a lot of players off early. I'd not be surprised if they did not move the student section at some point.

We could build a bunch of carriages shaped like pumpkins but painted pink with safety glass windows and pulled by a cardinal and gold tractor. Whenever it appears a "Storm-the-field" situation may happen, the train pulls the carriages out in-between the visiting team and the student section. When the game ends, a fairy godmother will ring a little bell calling the visiting players to the safety of the carriages (unfortunately they'll have to stand and hold on to safety straps). Finally the train carries the visiting team safely to the entrance of the tunnel.

What should be discussed is how to better protect the opposing team when we rush the field. I'm fine with the fans being excited and rushing the field, but only if the safety of the other team is secured or at least better efforts than what were made Saturday. For purposes of this argument, I make no judgment as to the merit of whether or not field rushing was justified based on the opponent and victory.

Fact is, if you were at the game, you could see the massing about 4 minutes (in game time) before the game ended. This was probably about 6 to 8 minutes in real time. This gives staff time to prepare. In my opinion the PA announcer should have been giving severe warnings to fans about them allowing WVU to exit the field first before rushing. That little reminder would dissuade some folks. Also, more of a security presence should have been hovering around WVU's sideline and the security folks in the student section should be instructed to inform the students that the students are not to touch the WVU players or interact with them. The security folks should be better trained and instructed to politely be relaying this information up to the students while the security folks are standing around on the field in front of the student section. Maybe even have a megaphone to relay this information. This would also dissuade some folks. In addition, would a moving "cordoned off" area / barrier manned by about 50 security folk and ISU administration for WVU to walk through back to their locker room also help? Seems so.

Just some thoughts. We have to do better making the field rushing safer for the opposing team in my opinion. When a never-ending swarm of boisterous and sometimes insulting (I imagine, I don't have any firsthand knowledge, but my experience in massive field rushing as a college student leads me to believe there were very likely ISU students in the crowd yelling insults / threats at WVU) students is streaming through you, it's easy for things to get out of hand. Put yourself in the shoes of the WVU players watching that mob come at you. So, more needs to be done by security.

Now that's some creative problem-solving. Better email JP.

Very true that the current set-up contributes to the risk. That said, I think it can be mitigated with more security / warnings rather than a huge stadium seating overhaul that comes with its own huge set of challenges and risk.

This is a stupid post.

I've actually attended a game in Morgantown. I thought the fans were the some of the nicest and coolest I've interacted with and I've gone to games at ND, Northwestern, Nebraska, Purdue, Penn State, Miami, and UCLA among others.
Agreed, I was at the game where Rohach beat them in OT. Everyone was very gracious and thanked us for coming out. I've gone out of my way to say something kind to visiting fans in Jack Trice ever since that experience.

I will say, them having chainlink separating their student section from the rest of the stadium is quite the visual.

Would you want a flaming couch lobbed at your seats? It is a needed precaution.

;)

Surprised that Randy Pete didn't take this opportunity to break his other leg and demand an apology from the University for the students pushing him to the ground...
....again. o_O

I hate Pandy as much as the next guy, but didn't he immediately come out and say it wasn't the court storming and that he just tripped over a cable?

you left out the unicorns...

Give it some time. With the trajectory this program is on, we’ll be in the top 5 and wins over top 20 teams will become commonplace so field rushes won’t happen.

I think it's mighty stupid to chant overrated and then run onto the field.

I've went to the field many times, @iowa in 1998. Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix in 2000. Oklahoma St in 2011, and even did it last year for TCU, mostly because somebody I was with wanted to and it was easier to get out. But WVU? After that beat down? Not even a little bit of me wanted to go down.
I'm a student, it was fun. If we quickly adopt a holier-than-thou mentality, we'll be like Baylor fans--who wants that? Remember how quickly their fans got cocky? Let's remember why we're Iowa State fans: it's awesome. And rushing the field is awesome. Ergo, Iowa State fandom + rushing the field = very awesome. Simple maths.

Holgorsen was being a baby, and now the Big 12 is fining us with no evidence more than WVU's piss-poor side of the story (all evidence points to their lack of class). That doesn't mean we deserve the fine or won't win the appeal. Don't let Bob ******* Bowlsby make anyone a sourpuss. Aside: I can't believe the Big 12 commissioner is paid $2.3M. What does he even do?

if dana had any sense, he would have had all but 11 leave the field before the final horn.

One good thing I guess is that there isn't another home game this year that would deserve a field rush.... not even close. If we rush any other game this year, that will be a huge embarrassment.

There is one game left that would merit us rushing the field...

The win that puts us into the Conference Championship Game.

Which could be against the purple kitties this year. Other than that, no other game on the schedule would merit a field rush.
