West Virginia Player Attacks Fan

To me that's the risk you run by storming the field, but as long as there are no consequences for doing it it's going to continue. Just don't be a jackass and stay clear of the losing team or you may catch a forearm to the throat, those are the breaks.

I love storming the field but it absolutely needs to happen AFTER the opposing team has exited.

Agree completely. Our fans have to change (less likely) or our security has to be more proactive (more likely, and probably where we need to focus our reform efforts). Some of the fault is on ISU here and I agree with others that Pollard will probably be fielding a call from the Big XII office soon, and rightfully so. If we can't improve our act (I swear we storm the court or rush the field more than anyone), then the conference needs to start fining us until we improve safety.

I was at the game and the kids were just running as fast as they could right through a lot of WVU players. I expect something to happen. The problem with a situation like this is that it's totally foreseeable. The kids and other fans started massing with several minutes left. Security had time to prepare and do a better job. Security should have been down near WVU in mass, or they should have made PA announcements / ushered the WVU players off immediately if we couldn't have a huge security presence around WVU.

I still don't get why we rush so much. WVU is going to finish in the 15 to 20 range in the rankings and we may finish just behind them in the top 25 when all things are said and done. The line was 6.5. It wasn't that big of an upset. Our fans just love any excuse to sprint onto the field as fast as they can.

Idk if getting attacked by an opposing player is. Other **** is reasonably risky about rushing.

I was watching from upper deck and clearly saw some fans being belligerent towards west virginia players. Then saw one player go after a fan who instigated it. A WVU manager or coach then forcefully pushed the WVU player towards the locker room. Our fans have to start acting like they've been here before. This isn't first or the biggest upset in college football. Heck, WVU was only a 5 point favorite in the game.
Responding that way to talking? Lol, speaking of acting like you’ve been there. No wonder they’re fond of late hits-we must have said something.

It’s particularly entertaining coming from a chippy program like WVU.

I am all for fun but would have preferred we not rush the field (my brother and i didn’t). Like someone else said, we were only a 5 point dog, wasn’t that big of an upset at all. We also completely manhandled then and were clearly the better team (at least on Saturday). I prefer to save field storms for bigger moments. TCU last year was perfect. More of a “we are for real” type of celebration

I look at it this way. You mess with the bull you get the horn. Never let your mouth write checks your ass can't cash.

Maybe we need a tunnel in the North end zone renovation? run it from the 35 yard line to the half way up the visitors locker room. Partially underground to not block the view?

If any of you are driving by JTS today do you mind rushing the field for me? I'll pay you back as soon as I can. Maybe the Tech game.

If a fan gets physical first or throws something at them or says something pointedly racist, that's on them and an ass kicking is deserved.

If it was just words like egging the player on, player needs to keep the cool.

I just don't know how you'd ever prove that.

Best solution? Keep fans and participants apart. I wouldn't be surprised in the near future if Jamie is writing a check to the conference every time fans end up on the field or the floor (basketball).

Well it is MidAmerican Energy's field now. They should write the check to the B12 if they start fining.

I sit in section W - the students started leaving for the hillside with 5 minutes left. Not sure they were going to wait (or ever would). There was security on the field by the hillside, but once they started jumping the fence - security had no chance. Maybe put security at the top of the hillside the last 10 minutes and don't let the students down to begin with would work.

The real issue is the security (or lack thereof). We have seen its real deficiencies this year (almost at every home game too). The SDSU "evacuation" was a joke. The OU "It's getting hot in here" wasn't executed well either with people hanging out on the stairs and clogging up traffic ways. The storm on Saturday was no exception. It's a cluster to get down there and then security wouldn't let you go back up into the stands - trying to funnel everyone out the north exits. I also noticed that the players didn't hang around long either as they all started quickly moving to the exit shortly after the handshakes.

All it is going to take is for someone to have an emergency, or get injured, and it will all stop...and at much greater cost that will get passed along to the fans eventually.

Me personally, I am over the storming. First one was last year TCU and that was pretty cool. Second one was meh, and if I have anything to say about it, there will not be a third - only reason I went on the field Saturday was I had kids that wanted to go.

I’m of the mindset that there isn’t an inappropriate time to rush. I think rushing the field/court is part of what makes college sports great. I don’t know that a game like that was neccessarily worthy of a rush but oh well.

People that don’t like rushes need to get the stick out of their butt. It seriously is like the old man yelling get off my lawn.

Maybe there are legitimate logistical concerns regarding it but I think we’ve done a pretty good job historically. I’m sure there are safety improvements that should be looked at but rushing is really just about celebrating together.
