Weather forecast for UNI game

Pretty sure not the warmest ever.

I was at the Iowa game in 2021. That sucker was hot … and it didn’t help that was the day somebody decided to make an offer on our house in Cedar Rapids and I was trying to be on the phone with my realtor most of the day.
I was also at the Iowa game in 2021 and the temperature only got up to 92 during that game (https://www.kwwl.com/weather/blog/w...cle_b5e11f40-2239-11ed-9a3d-3bab04558331.html).

I'm afraid this game is gonna be warmer.

I didn’t mean to imply that game was the hottest, although I know it sounded like I did.

Hot is hot!

I did do some digging, and while you have to search around for Ames historical weather data, you may be correct that a 95-degree day would be the hottest temperature for a home ISU game. I found a reference to the 2013 UNI game setting a new record of 92 degrees, so I searched August/September games at Trice since then. The only games with a high at 90 degrees or above for the day were:

2015 UNI, 90 degrees
2018 Oklahoma, 91 degrees
2021 Iowa, 91 degrees

So 95 would be significantly higher. Interestingly, for the August/early September games at Trice since 2014, there have been more gamedays with highs of 70 or below (four) than there have been highs of 90 or above (three). The average high temp for the 17 August/September gamedays I looked up from 2014 to last year is 77.

Thanks for all the research!
I remember seeing the paramedics helping a number of fans at the 2018 Oklahoma game. I ended up leaving my seat that game and watching most of it standing in the shade under the upper deck.

It really sucks that TV dictates the starting time for games. I get it's the reality we live in, but it sucks that there's no consideration at all for the fans who pay big bucks and travel to Ames to tailgate and sit through 4 hour games.

I'd love it if the opening home game was always scheduled in the evening.

Just that a lot of Hawk fans/trolls get on here talk tough and have never been to a game before. @Pope makes it sound just like that. I've been to all the ISU Iowa game the last 10 years. Seems they've all been been hot as h-ll or raining.

So that makes you tough? Like is that some sort of metric?

I remember a stretch of years where the opening game was on Thursday evenings. Anyone else, or is this a Mandela thing?

No, it's real. There was a stretch in the late 80s to mid 90s. I don't know that it happened every season, but it was multiple years for sure. Back when they had to import stadium lights on huge trucks.

1993 Northern Illinois
1995 Ohio
1999 Indiana State

2006 Toledo
2007 Kent State
2008 South Dakota State
2009 North Dakota State
2010 Northern Illinois

The 2006-10 games were a combination of (1) getting people to show up because Labor Day weekend plans were more important and (2) getting out of the exclusive TV windows so that the games could be televised -- even though it was Tier 3-level TV (Mediacom/FCS).

Brings me back to the "91 ISU Colorado game. Wind, snow/blowing snow, artificial turf, snow drifts in the lot, people huddled in the back row behind the concrete wall on the lower decks, the band with there coats blowing like a sail on ship. I just drove up to the entrance on the south side, parked in snow bank, just and just walked in. No one even took tickets.

Since we sit near the top of the stadium it sure would be nice if they allowed more than one water bottle. We bring a refillable one but that many stairs in the heat multiple times will be a pain.

Back in those days, you could call and ask the ticket office what time the game started, and they would reply with "What time can you get here?"

Just try and keep this mental image in your head Saturday, and maybe that’ll cool you off a few degrees.
