We Will or CGC?

Just want to say I appreciate what you do. Greatly! You are the right guy for the job. At much lower levels than you I tried to raise money for ISU for 15 or so years. I know how hard your job is. People need to get over not liking the current state of things with NIL - it’s reality. You play or you go home. I contribute and try to help however I can. Your approach reflects the reality of ISU, focus on select retention. I hope we can get to the $2M. That is way below every other team in the conference as I understand it. But, aggressive for us. Let us know how we can help - some will respond.

So if no one donated to this collective then sports would cease to exist at ISU? Student athletes wouldn’t get full ride scholarships and stipends to bank anymore?

I would like to know what the goal is. Not in terms of the athletes, but in terms of the football program. Do people think we’re going to win a title of some kind? History suggests it’s not going to happen in football, so what are we doing here?

Fighting to stay competitive.
Did you watch the game last night? Wrestling is the closest hands down.
Yeah that was extremely frustrating and disappointing.

Depends if you want to successfully compete. You have made it clear in the past you do not. When you openly campaigned against WEWILL and hoped for its failure you lost me. In this new world, that all most all of us dislike, you have to be a player of some magnitude or get left behind. In our case the first goal is too not have our good players poached.
My goal is to have a competitive team.

Some of it also is, I can buy a wrestling season ticket for $100. I buy 4 football season tickets, those alone are 2400, throw in parking and it's 2500, and that is without any donation. If I buy 4 wrestling tickets, its 400. Used to be if you donate at the right amount, you get passes to wrestling included with your donation. Most will donate for football or MBB. It's easier to ask a wrestling fan for $500 donation to help a wrestler when they spent 400 for tickets and parking than it is for the 2500 spent for football.
Yep.. obviously I'm a wrestling die-hard but also have men's bball season tickets. Wrestling for the wife and I comes out to roughly $500 when it's all said and done. With that we are 8 rows up from the mat, have johnny passes, and right out the door parking. On top of that, we get to listen to Coach speak pre-meet and go over next door post-meet for socials with some great fans and interact with a few of the wrestlers. $500 bucks that's it. So with that cost point, I am free to donate more towards the RTC.

Do I love football? You bet I do and would love for us to be competitive year in and year out. Financially my funds go in order of enjoyment and sports that I regularly attend. Football happens during my busy time, unfortunately. Wrestling happens to be the sport that I enjoy the most, attend the most, and believe is the closest to being competitive year in and year out along with being the sport with the best chance at competing for a national title.

You are a case example of why Brent Blum’s job is so difficult. You do not really care.

Anyway, I will reserve my comments for fellow fans who hope for ISU’s success, not those who actively advocate against it. I fully respect everybody's giving decision, whatever it may be. Personal decision. As I told you months ago, when you choose the option to obstruct those trying to help - I do not respect that.

Have a nice life.

So can’t answer the question then? What is the goal? What are we competing for? Are people going to be capable of accepting and funding 4-8 - 8-4 forever?

What are the metrics for success?

A loser accepts mediocrity. Winners always try more even if u are 1-11 or 11-1.

Shared some of this in my thread about Jack Trice getting paid at ISU, but here's a few more things.

It's no secret that the ISU athletic department is at the very bottom of P5 donor support and, historically speaking, it's not a new thing either. For instance, ISU tried to expand their stadium in the 1920s to be a modest horseshoe. It failed due to poor alumni support.

Not surprisingly, ISU has struggled

Winsipedia is a great resource that breaks down a bunch of data about CFB teams. Here's some of ISU's historical rankings:

Consensus AA players
63. Duke
63. Rice
63. Iowa State
66. Air Force
66. Colorado State
Winning %
111. Kansas State
112. Iowa State
113. Tulane
NFL Draft picks
71. Vanderbilt
72. Iowa State
73. Memphis
74. Utah State
NFL First Round Draft picks
102. Buffalo
102. Hawaii
102. Iowa State
102. Liberty
102. UTSA

If you average all of these, along with some other Winsipedia rankings for an overall composite, ISU ranks:
97. Western Kentucky
98. Iowa State
99. Middle Tennessee

Woof.

This is one reason why I find it absolutely hilarious when some question whether Matt Campbell is doing enough at ISU and maybe, just maybe, he might need to be on the hot seat in a future season.

If you want to see ISU be successful and have your entertainment dollars utilized in the best way possible, simply click this giant thing:

I suggest you ignore gunner - I am.
He is what I call a pretend fan - his only investment in ISU is to preserve his ability to complain on a message board. Easy to complain but it’s work to try to help. Some people find pleasure in criticizing those who work for improvement.

The CGC could just donate to the We Will. That seems to make the most sense. I do not know what they are doing now with their proceeds.
I tend to agree, but it’s not that simple.
As a former CGC board member I can tell you it has been discussed. Currently, the CGC has a very significant annual commitment to funding the Performance Center. It was built into the financial plan for the facility. Actually, I have not checked for a while, but I believe if you go to the CGC website you can see where the money goes. It’s a great volunteer organization. I now spilt my available $ between CGC and WEWILL.

Lol. You're going to accept what you get whether you like it or not. Unless you plan on putting on the pads or a headset.
So, legit question here then. There's really no way to ask this without sounding like a massive douche so it's whatever I guess, but why do you still watch and care? If we're destined to suck forever and never will compete with anyone in your eyes, why even want to be a part of it?

I don't expect Iowa State to ever win a national title. But as long as we have a seat at the table, which we do, I can't mentally shut that door, even if I think it's <1% of a chance. It seems like that's been totally slammed shut in your mind though. I personally couldn't get myself to want to watch or care if I never thought we'd be anything other than a 4th rate program doing 4th rate things and nobody can ever chance that
