I'm not sure that they are allowed to price it wherever they want. Maybe there is a range but you can call the IABD and report them just for fun. Might make your next purchase a little cheaper.

My mother-in-law just got in from Annapolis, and she brought me a bottle of George Washington Rye. They only bottle 500 350ml bottles each year, so I consider it very rare. Have yet to crack the bottle, but it is foggy like moonshine.
Hmmm post #1 is a offer to bootleg. Maybe you can send it through the mail and make it a federal offense.

For anyone around Chicago, the disneyland sized Whole Foods on North Avenue had 5 bottles a couple days ago.
Picked up two bottles at HyVee on Devils Glen in Bettendorf today. They put out 12 bottles total this morning.
The manager said they get their new deliveries late on Tuesdays and put it out on Wednesdays at 7am and that IF they get Templeton, it's the Wed after the first of the month.

Certainly not all going out of State and Templeton has no control over the price on the shelf.

Picked up 1 bottle today at North Scott Foods in Eldridge, IA. They have 9 bottles on the shelf (shelf price $39.99).
The first bottle I picked up did not have any batch info on the back. I looked through all the bottles and several bottles did not have the batch sticker on it. Has anyone else seen bottles in the store without the batch info sticker?

My goodness they have done a masterful job of marketing. It isn't bad whiskey but it sure isn't that ($50) good.
The whole thing reminds me of Apple computers. My wife's cost double and is in the shop at least twice a year and she still thinks it is the greatest thing.
For the money they are getting you could buy a really nice single malt.

The little grocery store in my town now receives the booze, and the 6 bottles usually last 10-12 days. I also see it in IC from time to time instead of never. Looks like the drought is slowly ending. We will see what happens around Christmas.
At the risk of igniting a flame war....I believe that their "production" is that it's mashed, fermented, and distilled in Indiana, shipped by tanker truck to Iowa, aged in barrels, and bottled. If you're buying it because it's "made in Iowa"...take that into account. If you're buying it because you like it, enjoy. If what I believe is correct, the boom/bust will continue, since they're getting it in batches.
