Steele Jantz

I'm always glad when someone is able to give us THE answer. Thanks for making the conversation unnecessary now that you've chimed in.

I would HOPE that our WRs (next and this year) are good enough that SJ would not be able to just switch to WR and be a starter.

Everyone saw what happened to JB last night. The QB is basically a second RB in this system. Guys are going to be banged up and you'll always need a quality back up.

There has been a lot of opinions in this thread, I gave mine and backed it up with something ISU has done in the past when they were put in this spot (Flynn). We've got a ton of young WR's that most of us know nothing about so far. Money has taken a dip lately, Lenz is performing in crunch times, but who else is stepping up? Darks doesn't even have a 100 yards total this year, and he's a senior.
I'm just in the mindset of getting a good play maker (Jatnz) on the field, when there is talented backup QBs behind Barnett. I think a ton of us are also forgetting that Tiller is still an option to be JB's backup next year.

No way is Tiller the backup to either starting QB.
I would tend to think that too but until his grades forced him off the field, it sounded like he was possibly going to be the starter. In the meantime we have seen the talents of Steele and Jared, and they both seem to be capable. With Tiller going into what, year 5 here next year, you would think he can be a backup option.

No it didn't. Rhoads said regardless of that, Steele was going to be the starter.

They know Steele is the most talented QB on the roster. This benching could be a blessing. He will have to work his *** off to show hes the man. He got a little experience, and now he gets to sit back and get a better grasp on the system. Mark my words, he will be the starting QB next year and will cut down on the turnovers big time. Its also great that Barnett is getting reps. Jantz could get hurt again, and now we have an experienced QB who can step in and manage the team without turning the ball over. Jantz wins next years QB competition, the real competition will be the next year. IMO.

Sometimes the value of a person is only made clearer by adversity.

Steele Jantz could have sat on his helmet and sulked while watching Barnett start.

He didn't.

All the TV shots of him showed him pumping up Barnett, talking to Herman or Rhoads, or to O-linemen and receivers. Steele Jantz helped win the TTech game and proved he can change and contribute.

Steele Jantz is still a stud and he may not start another game this year.

Um mm, you need to see Jantz on the sideline (screwing around) after he got pulled in A&M game . It was better this week, but I was sad to see him and Tiller(in jeans) goofing off and joking like it was some FAC party .

He is too good of a QB to switch positions. I understand he is very athletic and has raw talent, but I don't think a switch is going to happen. Not even if he doesn't win back the job.

He's too good based on what? Austin Flynn had much more talent at QB than Jantz has, and he made the switch. If he was too good to switch positions, he'd be the starter. As it is, he's lost his starting job to a redshirt freshman. I don't think he's too good to be making demands about what position he should play. Coaches should try to fit him where they think he can help, if it's not at QB, and hopefully he's as much of a team player as Austin was, and does whatever he can to help the team...

I always want to have two guys who could start at QB. It wouldn't surprise me if Barnett gets injured and we see much more of Jantz this season. I'm not hoping for an injury, but I'm surprised that there haven't been more injuries to starting QBs in the Big 12 this year.

I'm not going to call him out, but didn't he say that after the news of Tiller being ineligible?
I mean what do you think he is going to say, "Well Jerome can't play, so I guess we'll give Steele a shot." No, he is going to try and give whoever it is next in line confidence to get the job done. Steele did that until either an injury and/or Barnett stepping up. Now, Rhoads will try and give him the confidence.

Barnett clearly has a calming effect on the offense when he is at QB....I really like what I saw last Saturday night.

I wouldn't say that. Granted, Flynn played behind the worst O-Line in football history in 2003, and was only a Freshman, but Jantz is a better QB than Flynn. Even I can admit that, and the guy was my idol. I still love the guy to death.

In fact, Barnett reminds me of Flynn. I was calling for Flynn right after Seneca graduated, and I was hoping for Barnett to start the season after Arnaud graduated.

I think Jantz can make the switch to WR. I personally like the though of the Kerry Meir analogy. WR, but also the backup QB. Besides, put Tiller at WR as well, and those two alone would add a good amount of size to our corps.

I think you are very uninformed.

Austin was a 4 star QB recruit, highly sought after. This is Steele's, what 3rd year playing QB? He's a 3 star JUCO player. If I'm uninformed, I'm not sure what that makes you...but whatever it is, you woulnd't understand it anyway...
