Steele Jantz

He is too good of a QB to switch positions. I understand he is very athletic and has raw talent, but I don't think a switch is going to happen. Not even if he doesn't win back the job.

If he isn't the number one guy next year, there's absolutely no reason he can't pull a Kerry Meier and be back up QB and starting WR at the same time.

No. Blythe was born to play WR. It was in his blood. Jantz is just too good of a QB to make a change. I don't think his days are numberd as a QB.
Absolutely agree. And the fade was only one of the things he did well. All I'm saying is that Jantz has some characteristics that could make in dangerous for that play in the WR position.

But it comes down too, next year we'll have Jantz, Tiller, Barnett and Richardson at the QB spot. If Barnett continues to improve, he could be the leading candidate for the starting job. Everyone on here says the coaches love Richardson as he knows the system so well. Personally, I see the QB race between are 2 young guys building for the future instead Seniors. Heck, didn't Jantz even play LB or Safety in HS? The coaches might want to use him there.

This. Herman has been raving about Richardson's knowledge of the offense and I could definitely see a 3 horse race next spring.

Barnett will start next year if he finishes this year strong. CPR and Herman have no reason to move beyond him starting next year. He will get the call and if he doesn't perform someone will step in (SJ or SR)

Jantz time at ISU isn't up, he walked in, took the job and won 3 games, the last with a bad foot.

What Barnett has done so far is great, but knowing we won't lose a step if a healthy Jantz comes in the game makes our offense so much more durable. Compound that with the alleged QB talent we have waiting in the wings and the "Herman" offense could be nice to watch if we have a WR corp to match.

Something happened after that UCONN game, it looked like his passes floated, didn't have that zip he had before. And his mobility seemed a lot worse.

Depends how bad his foot is, I have had sprained foots that took 6 months before I could walk 100% correctly. No idea if it is that bad or what, he clearly is not the same guy he was before the injury in my opinion. Could be some other injury we don't know about too, I just think he was too good at times in the first few games to play that poorly for that long.

I think he is a tough kid though, and he will be back. Some rest will do him well.

Honestly I dont think he can play QB Consistanlty at the big 12 level. Barnett is a natural Quarterback where Jantz has only had a few years at the position.

It was really good to see him coaching and helping Barnett on the sidelines. He had the headset on and was coaching and talking to Barnett frequently. Made me happy to see that after what looked like a mad Jantz last week after getting pulled. Lets hope Barnett keeps up the solid play. It'd be nice to have a QB for 4 more years.

I too was glad to see Steele involved in the game instead of doing what he did last Saturday. But, Barnett has been doing that all season. In case you don't know, Ryan Gent is the "dummy" signal caller. He always wears the headset at home games and signals in the play. Since he doesn't travel, the backup QB wears the headset and is the "dummy" signal caller. So, that was no surprise to me. What I did like is Steele seemed to have a great attitude. The backup has to have that in order to stay in the game.

With barnett doing well and steele as number 2 do you red shirt rohach (sp)

Would be shocked if Rohach does not redshirt.

With how hyped Rohach and Richardson have been, and with the play (so far) of Barnett, I wouldn't be surprised if any of the three of them didn't finish their career as a Cyclone. From what we have heard, they all have the talent to start at this level.

Why always to rush to move QBs to WR? In the (eventual) case of Tiller, it makes sense — too much time in the system to let his talent languish, and he wouldn't realistically rise back above No. 3 spot.

What's wrong with having a starter and a capable backup (who was originally the No. 1 guy)? We've obviously seen good results so far from Barnett and Jantz, and each seems to have strengths.

If one QB gets injured, the other guys is game-day proven (small set of data, yes, but each has won as starter).

If one player is struggling early in a game and making a switch might re-energize or change direction of a game (not foolproof and it should be done sparingly, but it's an option).

Things like that.

I think Jantz could easily reclaim the starting job next year. I think the only way he doesn't is if Barnett leads us to a bowl win, but even then hes going to have to start passing more. Its great having a QB like this when we are rushing so well and playing good D, but theres going to be a point where we need our QB to take over games.

Jantz can do that, he just needs to get more consistent. Barrnett is the opposite, he doesn't turn the ball over and does enough, but theres going to be a point where he needs to make the big plays.

Wrong. We need to pull the Austin Flynn WR tapes out and show Steele what he can be capable of doing.
Can you imagine end around runs, a pitch to Jantz, then he can run, throw it, or throw it away? It would be nice to see a few more gadget plans incorporated into the playbook besides the occasional onside, fake FG, fake punt that CPR pulls out twice a year.

IMO, Steele should stay at QB. Even if they will one day be great, I would LOVE to keep Richardson and Rohach on the bench/redshirting. If Jared wins the job, as his current play would suggest, then we will, inevitably, need Steele to win us a game or two next year. With the way our QBs run in this system, they will take shots and the backup will have to win. It happened last year with AA, and this year with Steele, and will likely happen with Jared next year.....or at least we need to plan on it. We're lucky that a RSFr is playing well right now, but that can't be expected. We can expect them to play well as RSSo or definitely RSJr, but RSFr is too much too ask.

I'm always glad when someone is able to give us THE answer. Thanks for making the conversation unnecessary now that you've chimed in.

I would HOPE that our WRs (next and this year) are good enough that SJ would not be able to just switch to WR and be a starter.

Everyone saw what happened to JB last night. The QB is basically a second RB in this system. Guys are going to be banged up and you'll always need a quality back up.
