Steele Jantz

As much as I love Steele (and I don't know why) if Barnett, a rFR can do what a rSR couldn't do, with a much tougher three game stretch than he deserves to be the #1 QB heading into the next season. If he finds a way to win one of these next three games I will be estatic.

Except you have to realize Steele has played around 20 games actually as a qb, and it's his first year in the system. I'm willing to cut him some slack at the moment.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Barnett has a bulit in advantage in that he has been playing QB probably since he was in middle school. I think Steele is a better athlete but that does not trump the experience that Barnett brings. I do feel good that we have a backup that has played (and won) big games. Not too many schools can say that.

Steele is a rJr. Barnett has done a great job. And deserves to start. He has earned it. He still needs to improve. I like the idea of Jantz backing up Barnett if Barnett continues to play well. The Big 12 is a brutal conference and in our offense a QB is expected to carry the ball. IMO, Jantz is more valuable as the backup QB with some experience rather than as a WR. Let's say Barnett is still the starting QB next year. Having your backup QB that is a rFR who has NEVER taken a college snap is not a great thing IMO. I would much rather have a rSR who has started several games and actually led us to a few great victories as our backup QB.

I'd rather have the more talented guy starting who will have another year in the system so he shouldn't make as many mistakes. Now he knows his problems and can work on them. I think watching Barnett who has a better grasp on the offense currently is only going to help him for next year.

I agree with all of you. What I meant was that Barnett deserves to be #1 heading into the offseason and fall. IF Steele can beat him out so be it. That's for Rhoads and Herman to decide if Steele is the better man for the job come next Sept. Regardless of who wins I will back them up 100% and I expect y'all to do the same. Barnett has an edge without a doubt but he's using that edge to his advantage and that is very comforting to see. I also think that Steele is a better fit at backup QB IF he cannot get his job back.

No argument over Barnett starting. But IMO Steele Jantz should still be the backup over a rFR Sam Richardson and a true freshman in Rohach. Jantz does have some experience. If Richardson is better than Jantz then Richardson plays. But I still like the idea of an experienced backup QB.

I def wouldn't rule out Steele just yet. I have no idea why but I find my self secretly rooting for him. His story is just incredible.

Steele isn't the answer at QB. He had 9/10 turnovers prior to the injury at UCONN. Barnett will continue to build confidence. Steele has supporters because of the comeback wins, go back and look at some of those passes, it wasn't skill he chucked em up for grabs and some good things happened...he could've been 0 for 7 vs 3-4.

Let's see what Barnett can do with plenty of prep and a prime time showdown.

IF JB finishes strong, it is his job...no question. Performance in real competition will outweigh anything that happens in practice prior to next year. JB will start in the opener in 2012 IF he finishes strong and especially if he can win another game and take us bowling.

JB did play against the worst defensive teams in the B12. If healthy I think Jantz would had been just as succesfull against TTU and KU as JB.

Actually, Baylor is ranked lower than TT in total defense. I don't think JB played in that game.

You are correct if you look at Total Defense. Doesn't change the main argument that JB has played the softer of the teams in the B12 so far compared to Jantz. Guess we'll see what he's made of these next three.

OSU has the 3rd worst Defense by the way.

Its very common for first year QB's to make a lot of mistakes and cut down a lot the next year...

Outside of Texas (15) and OU (45), all of the B12 schools are ranked below 75th. The only reason Texas is so high is because the KU game has their ranking skewed. And OU is high because their game against UT is skewed. The B12 is not known for great defenses. The problem this conference causes has to do with the fact we have teams that score a ton of points.

They also have the #2 ranked offense. OU has the #3 ranked offense. It's a team game, we'll also have to have great defensive play.

These are both spot on. People keep talking about how Steele is going to improve so much with a year of this offense under his belt. Can Barnett not improve? Will Barnett not have another year of this offense under his belt also?
