So close to being a solid team.

If every game we played started at 2:30 pm we might be undefeated..........we have had 2 games that started at that time. Both wins. The rest have started at 11 am or have been night games.

What BS. Baylor was going to be "left out" also. Did it affect their recruiting? How about K-State? They were in the same boat as ISU too. Did being rumored to be "left out" affect our men's bb recruiting? Women's BB? Volleyball? Good grief...
Tornado Man, that was nice of you to go easy on cylove.

First, doing more with less is criteria #1 for a HC here, both via deft evaluation of overlooked guys, and player development. That is asking a lot, which is why an average coach like Rhoads, one that in 6 years has shown to be lacking, must not continue to lead the program.

Second, the recruiting angle was perhaps believable before we got curb stomped by two FCS programs. Where were NDSU and UNI ranked in recruiting?

The play on the field hinted otherwise, but in the first 4 years you could tell yourself it was just due to the inherent difficulty in recruiting to a northern school in a southern conference. We could propagate the myth we were doing more with less desirable recruits, which any ISU must do. Sadly it turns out not only where we not good enough in finding overlooked talent, but we did less with the talent we did get.

IMO, Rhoads is a pretty good coach. We are going through a rough stretch right now but we are in games that could go either way. In the past they would not even get close. And the team is improving. And is on the cusp of breaking through.

It is widely acknowledged by experts that our recruiting is improving. You disagree. So be it. And curb stomping is what happened during the 2 years under Chizik.

Glad Pollard is in charge. And not you. You would fire Rhoads and bring in a Gene Chizik, Turner Gill, or Will Muschamp. Kansas is having a lot of success in following your formula of firing coaches every few years and hiring a new one.

I'm not here to argue that Rhoads should be fired right now. Nevertheless, the curb stompings that took place under Chizik really didn't seem like they were occurring anymore often than they have the last 2 years with Rhoads. If you remember, under Chizik we still hung close in quite a few games in 07 and 08. Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Texas A&M, Colorado, and Kansas State.

Games we got thrashed under Chizik were Texas Tech, Nebraska, Texas, Kansas in 07 and Baylor, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Missouri in 08.

Under Rhoads the last 2 years we have been manhandled by Baylor, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Oklahoma last year and NDSU, Baylor, Oklahoma State so far this year with this year being far from over.

Also, before you bring up the classic our SOS is so much tougher now rebuttal, in 07 our SOS was 2 spots below what it was in 2013. 2008 will likely be quite a bit lower than 2014, but there is a lot of football to be played to figure 2014.

Baylor didn't seem like a curb stomp this year, although I think they pumped the breaks and it was never in doubt. Also don't agree OSU was a curb stomping. Sure it got away in the end but if the end of the half doesn't go the way it did that's a whole different game. Now the Oklahoma game...that will be a curb stomping.

By that mentality I can go ahead and remove some of the Chizik beatings too. In 07 we were hanging with Nebraska on the road being up 10-7 in the 3rd quarter. Also, I don't know how we can take away the Baylor game this year. We were totally manhandled in the first half and the game was never even close to in doubt.

LOL. Under Chizik in 2008 we were WINLESS in the Big 12 and had lost 10 in a row when he left for Auburn. In Chizik's first year we were beaten by UNI and Kent State. Rhoads took over a pretty bad team. But with an easy schedule his first year and some luck along with good coaching we made a bowl. Now the breaks are going the other way some. But the team is improving, playing hard and recruiting is improving. And we have come close in a lot of games. We are close to getting over the hump. The 1999 Cyclones had a lot of similar problems as they only won 4 games before the next season when they won 9 games.

You do realize that we are now currently winless in the Big 12? That will change though with Kansas coming up. Nevertheless, my point is a lot of you think of things being so much better the last 2 years as opposed to Chizik's 2 years when in actuality, they are comparable in areas.

Are we supposed to pretend like beating Kansas and maybe a mediocre West virginia type team every year is significantly better than going winless in conference?

As a longtime Cyclone fan I would say emphatically that beating Kansas and another conference team is much better than getting beat by those teams.

You must not have looked at the box score.

It's funny you always make that comment. All you had to do was watch that game with your own eyes. We were totally dominated in the first 30 minutes and it was well over by halftime. Anyone who doesn't think we were manhandled are fooling themselves.

2007 Nebraska team tied Iowa State for LAST in the Big 12 North. And they had a 5-7 record overall. Nebraska sucked that year. And in 2008 Iowa State went winless and did NOT play Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas Tech.

WHAT is it that you are arguing about then? You keep saying that Rhoads is the wrong guy for the job. You keep saying our results dictate that Rhoads should be replaced. Then you post something totally contradictory like this saying that Rhoads should NOT be fired right now.

Everyone else is just stating that we ARE seeing improvement on the field. And it has not translated into wins yet. But we are being positive and hopeful that wins will come. If they don't then we will deal with that later. But if you do not believe that Rhoads should be replaced right now then why do you continually say that Rhoads is not the man for the job and needs to be replaced? That makes no sense.

Texas and Texas Tech are not good teams this year. Lets not act like those are gauntlets playing those this year.

I don't see what your problem is. All I have brought up is that Chizik's 2 years here are not far off from the past 2 years of Rhoads. Also, I have not said that Rhoads is not the man for the job, but I have been skeptical and questioned it. I really don't know, but I'm mostly feeling he's not. Regardless, I didn't wan't to come here and argue that side because I know the firm Rhoads supporters don't handle any criticism towards Rhoads too well.

Look, I think the offense is definitely improving the last games and a half. What is discouraging though is that as soon as the offense takes 3 steps forward, our defense then takes 3 steps back. Rhoads needs things to begin to translate to wins quickly, because I like to think that hope is not always going to sell with the fans.

Chizik's 2 seasons are far less than even these last 1 and 1/2 seasons IMO.

So it seems that you are not sure about Rhoads. That is a far cry from statements like, "he is not the man for the job". In one case you are indecisive and waiting to make judgement. In the other, your mind is made up.

So pretty much everyone is in agreement that we are in a wait and see position over the next year and a half at least on what happens on the football field. IMO, it is best to give support and present a positive attitude in supporting the team over that period. Comment in a manner that is constructive criticism rather than negativity. There is a difference.
