Should Morris Start Over Thomas?

I just get tired of seeing this thread EVERY game. Two things are very clear to me. 1. Fred wants Naz as his McGee. Naz isn't coming off the bench because he's not good enough to start. He's coming off the bench because Fred likes having him as instant offense. And 2. Unless something drastic happens, Thomas will be starting all season. It seems Fred is making it very clear. I wish posters could find something else to obsess over. I almost miss the ******** about Cyclone Alley over this.

I'll go with the bold (maybe?) prediction that Naz starts Saturday.

So being disappointed that your star player and highest ranked player out of highschool continuously puts up low numbers is irritating you? Well get used to it. Sometimes the truth hurts. Thomas needs to play better period. I don't care who starts but he may find himself with Woodbury minutes if he doesn't start playing at a higher level.

I guess I didn't realize that the true freshman on this team is considered the star player. My apologies.

OMGGGGG he might read this!!!

Yes we are undefeated. That will change. Prepare accordingly. MT's lack luster play may not be costing us anything right now, but down the stretch, if we want that Big 12 title, he is going to have to step it up.

I tend to agree with you on this. If Fred was just starting his 5 best players, then Thomas would have to take a seat in favor of Naz Long. That is a no brainer.

However, coaches don't always start their best 5 guys. You could have EASILY made the argument that McGee should have started all year long last year too, but he didn't because he provided a nice spark off the bench. I think Naz kinda does the same thing for us.

I wish Matt would just go out in a 2nd half of a game like tonight where the outcome is not in doubt and just fire away. Is his shot release so slow that he's always concerned about his shot getting blocked or what? He pump fakes nearly every time instead of letting it go. Naz doesn't care. He just fires away. I hope Matt can get to that point with his confidence at some point.

We'd be nearly an unstoppable team if Thomas and Naz are both on fire on the same night. We could beat anyone in that case I believe.

Until Long makes some shots away from Hilton I am sticking with Thomas. Disappointed he isn't scoring more but I am more disappointed with how many have already given up on him.

Not sure that MT's play is lackluster. He is not shooting well. I agree we could use more confidence but, 5 points, 4 assists, 3 rebs, and no TO's is not lackluster imo. Room for improvement for sure but I like the rotation as is.

This. People can ***** all they want about Thomas not playing well right now but there's a reason why Fred still has him in the starting lineup and Naz on the bench. This is the same exact conversation we were having last year about Tyrus and Babb.

Thomas will find his stroke, that's what shooters do.

OSU might be one of the only games this year that MT might not start. They start 3 very athletic guards that I can't really imagine Thomas guarding.

I like Thomas starting for the vast majority of games though.

Why should it be stated again? Most of the posts on the matter have said starting does not matter, but it is the amount of minutes. Judging from your desire to keep making it about starting, you clearly only read the OP.

Frankly my desire would be that this whole subject be put to rest. This thread is dumb and has no place on here tonight.

Nobody has "given up on him"
But to say it isnt fair to be critical of a guy know for his shooting yet either doesn't or goes 1/5 against a terrible Northern Illinois. If it wasn't consiststantly that way with a few exceptions, I wouldnt say anything. But to me, entering conference play, I fear he wont be a factor at all against OSU, KU, BU or UT and he needs to be. The core 4 can't carry the load forever.

When we came out and ran a play to get him a look he drained it. The rest of the time we mainly have him sit in the corner waiting for a kick out (and Naz stated on the post game with Eric this is by design to help with spacing). So in other words when we run a play to get him involved I think he will be fine, the rest of the time he is the 5th option and helping with spacing.

And to be fair to MT, I suppose defenders know they have to play on him to shut down his 3 ball leavin more 1 on 1 opportunities and open space for the other 4 which helps them get better looks. Like I said, I don't care who starts as long as we win. I just think he needs to be more of a threat. Then again maybe if other teams don't treat him as a threat, then he goes off
