Should Morris Start Over Thomas?

Just looking for a friendly debate.

Should CFH shuffle his starting lineup? We are undefeated, so why mess with success. But Thomas seems to be struggling with his shot and we appear to be a better defensive team and our ball movement better with Morris at PG vs. Kane. Moving Thomas to the bench would not be a confidence builder for the freshman, but one could argue that Naz Long has been a better shot from 3. I have also been impressed with Dorsey-Walkers defense in limited minutes and it would be nice to see him get more minutes in the next 4 games.

Monte shows greater versatility at this point. If Matt would go Thuglife on us, that would change the equation.

(really nothing to do with starting Morris over Thomas but interesting observation) After watching the final seconds video on cyclones.tv a few times, and listening to Fred mention that the guys were supposed to foul on the last play when Iowa had the ball, it looks as if Morris either forgot or wasn't quite aware of the plan. You can see Niang in the lane sort of motioning to Morris to get out there on Gessel and almost seems as if he's trying to get him to foul. Morris never showed any intention of fouling and the play unfolded instead.

I don't get the massive love for Morris but hate (ok, not hate, but lack of love) for Thomas on this board. Morris right now seems like a not as big and very rough and inexperienced version of Kane. We already have Kane on the court (a slasher that can dish the ball but isn't very good with the three ball). We don't need two at the same time. What we need is a guy that can be a deep threat for the other guard to dish it off to who is a bit of a more polished shooter. That guy is Thomas. Or Long, but I think Fred likes having Long as a spark off the bench like McGee was. I'd be ok with Long starting over Thomas (though I think Thomas should be the starter still) but I think it would kind of hurt our spacing and deep abilitys if Morris were to start in his place.

One play I loved from Thomas is when he made a one handed lightening quick pass that was converted for an open 3. He's not a point guard but he passes well for a shooting guard and has ability to rebound well for his position.

Long starting over Thomas makes more sense to me. But I like how it is now just fine.

For the longest time I felt like I had a better game plan than does Fred. But now, I'm beginning to suspect that Fred kind of knows what he's doing.

That last possession was a disaster on defense all the way around. One of many from Friday night.

MT just does so many things well. I've noticed I'm just never nervous when the ball is in his hands (I'm not really when MM has the ball either) he just has a way of subtly impacting the game with or without the stats.

Thomas or Naz has to start for spacing reasons. Nobody is going to respect Kane or Morris from deep...yet.

Regardless of who starts, Fred is smart enough to keep the most confident guy out there. I'd be fine with any of those guys getting the start (Morris/Long/Thomas).

I love both of our freshmen. Thomas has struggled a bit, but you can just see the ability and overall game he has. Morris has played better than Thomas lately but adding him to the starting lineup leaves us with no point guard to enter the game when Kane and Morris get tired.

Thomas has played fine. I don't know the number right off hand but his shooting percentage is decent also. I think IA is a bad matchup for him bc he can't stay with Gessel and everyone else is quite a bit taller than he is. Naz was quick enough to stick with Marbel so he got to play more.

I have a feeling these threads will pop up after every game he (Thomas) struggles this year. After the Michigan game we had the same thread asking if he should start. Matt than goes on the road and was maybe our MVP of the 2nd half. He had 12 points and 6 big rebounds.

He's a freshman. He will play great in some games and be lost in others. It's normal. You just have to allow your freshmen to grow through the pains. I'd rather these threads not happen.

Agree. Naz would start before Monte because of his size and strength on d, as well as his outside shot. But Naz off the bench has been working, and Thomas will only get better and one of these games those 3's are going to fall. I still think he will become a bigger and more athletic version of Scotty.

MM played his best game as a cyclone Friday. He took over the point for 1/3rd of the game with Kane in foul trouble etc..I thought MM made some huge plays on both ends right when we needed it. His 3/4 court pass on a dime to ejim was a thing of beauty.

Yes, but the fact that there are other guys worth talking about is a great problem to have!

I'm just glad Fred has no problem going with the hot hand and isn't stuck with a specific rotation in mind. It was obvious that Thomas was a liability on defense and didn't quite have his stroke on Friday.
