SDW is transferring

You must have been one of those ripping on us and calling us SDW haters among other names just because we didn't think he was going to play much at ISU. Stay classy my friend.

What he said wasn't nice, but I think people have had enough of the "I told you so" posts in general.

Most seems pretty accurate to me personally. There's a lot of really bad d1 schools after the top 100ish.

Fair enough, though I think I've only seen a couple on here. Mine was more in response to the fact that some people literally get attacked if they have a different opinion on a player or coach than someone else, and it gets pretty ridiculous with the namecalling. I've always said SDW seems to be a great kid and has been a good member of the team, and I wish him the best.

Yeah, I agree that people won't sometimes (often) listen to opposing viewpoints, but it's tough to bring it up again without looking like saying "I told you so." We all do it at one time or another. I hope SDW finds a great fit and is happy.

Interesting how that class worked out...

SDW
Okoro
Niang
Long

Two complete busts and two MASSIVE hits.

That's all you need, I guess...

I'm sad to see SDW leave! Seemed like a great kid and one heck of a teammate. I hope he goes to somewhere in the Missouri Valley (so we could still watch him play some) or maybe Colorado State. He might fit in good with the group Larry has out there!

Not sure if i'd call SDW a "complete bust". He showed promise and he's still young (showed he could ball at the cap city league). I think he would have found a rotation spot next year or the year after. Anyways, always liked watching the kid play. best of luck to him.

I don't remember exactly what you posted, but I do know that some were not very nice in their criticism of SDW before. A lot of time people aren't very nice to posters who are asshats to players because they aren't the best talent on the team. Sometimes those posters are ridiculously bad to even our best players. And, yes, sometimes people overreact simply because someone is a little critical of a player. I definitely recall some crossed the line with SDW.

Really? Care to recant this statement? Okoro transferred early to be nearer his family after his father and brother died. No way he is a "complete bust".

SDW is a good player who got placed behind other older more experienced transfers. He decided to transfer to another school so he could actually play. I don't call that a "bust".

Agreed. SDW would have gotten decent playing time on any ISU roster prior to 2012. We are so stacked this year that we unfortunately had to let a great player go. I'm not happy about it because I thought SDW was a good guy and great player but that's the way college basketball works.

I read somewhere that Oakland's coach mentioned they had a mid-year transfer coming. With the connections SDW has to them (Felder and him were AAU teammates, Percy is on the team right now) plus that info, I'd be shocked if he wasn't going there unless a big school at the last second came in.

Strikeouts, missed opportunity, talent un-realized, players that didn't contribute, etc.?

Anyway, I don't think there needs to be an argument about the semantics two players that are no longer with ISU and didn't meaningfully contribute on the floor while they were here. I wish them both the best, but I don't think Sigmapolis' point was that terrible, simply making the observation that Fred hit on two and missed on two.

Agree. I originally posted about SDW in reaction to some of the posts that I thought were too optimistic about his abilities after his big day in the cap city league. I had seen him play a few times and said I thought he had some offensive skills, but he wasn't strong and quick enough, especially on defense, to play in the Big 12, at least not yet. That mild statement alone got me raked pretty hard by some. I've never said anything personal about SDW other than that he seemed like a good kid and teammate. I agree making personal attacks on players is out of bounds, and coaches too. Having an opinion on the things they do or the ability they show is obviously a big part of what message boards are about, and at least most posters show respect for each other while they're doing it. Of course there are always a few trolls who you can tell are trying to stir up trouble.

And some just haven't grown up enough to understand that just because these guys may or may not be on scholarship, they are still practically kids and their own fans slamming them and calling them things like worthless, a waste of a scholarship, etc. hurts a lot more than an opposing fan doing it. Some people never learn the difference between "can I" and "should I". Obviously you aren't one of those people.

I do think his point is bad. You can't expect every recruit to always see playing time or meaningful minutes. His point is really bad to say Fred missed on Okoro.
