Rob Howe just destroyed the KXNO

Why is it that Hawk fans backed Perrault until he questioned the GOLDEN BOY? And now we're all in this boat together?

********.

You really think Stanzi never looked into DJK's bloodshot eyes and thought "WTF MATE?" All the members of this board would know if they were in the presence of that kind of coke head.

Not true at all. There are plenty of Anti Giggles threads on HN and on other messageboards, he's never been well liked by Iowa fans (even if you choose to not believe this) As for Stanzi not knowing if DJK was whacked outta his mind, who am I to say, I'm not Ricky Stanzi and I don't know what type of circles those two run in but to specifically mention Stanzi in the interview wasn't called for and Giggles apparently got what he deserved (I haven't listened to the full interview yet)

Why is speculation inappropriate on talk radio? Out of the 90 odd men on your football team, not one of them came forward to bring this to light. Stanzi just happens to be one of the 90. Would you have been just as offended if he'd said Adam Robinson, Jewell Hampton, Marvin McNutt, Klug, Claiborne, or any of the rest?

To speculate if one player over another knew of DJK's drug problem is very reckless. Why even open that can of worms?

couple things:

1) If one of our receivers got busted for drugs and Matt threw out that Arnaud knew about it and didn't do anything we would be ****** too. You're taking a clean respectable name and tying him in to something he has nothing to do with. Stanzi as much as I hate him for being a hawkeye is as anti pothead/hippy/drug user as you can find in a college athletes. He's even bashed hippies on the record.

2) I knew people in college who have used drugs, but never saw them under the influence of those drugs because I wasn't around when they would do them. Just because DJK was obviously using doesn't mean he was showing up to practice baked out of his mind. Believe it or not someone who smokes pot doesn't have bloodshot eyes 24/7. And judging by Stanzi's hate of hippies I doubt he was anywhere around DJK when he was using. I have had alcohol before but I don't go to work with a buzz. How would my coworkers know if I drink or not?

Matt stepped over a line when he tried to incriminate a specific player just because of his position. Especially one who hate hippies as much as Stanzi. If it was AA that was being tied to something like that I would defend him as feircly as Howe did.

I haven't waded through 6 pages of posts so if this has already been posted, please ignore.

The MP3 of the argument...

WOW!

HAHAHAHAHA.

That was hard to listen to. I have quite the smirk on my face sitting in my cube right now listening to that.

Robby got REAL defensive REAL quick. Matty does we he does best and raised his voice and got extremely defensive and did his little giggle thing and claimed he was misquoted, etc, etc.

But sorry Robby - that was embarrassing for you. Perrault embarrasses himself everyday so that's nothing new. Sounded like Howe was punching the suckeye company line and Matty wouldn't let him do it. I am very surprised to type this, but I give this round to Matty P in the Battle of the Loud Whiny School Girls.

I think it all comes down to the ability to ask a tough question in a tactful way. Great interviewers almost seem sorry to have to bring up a tough question.

Perrault has no tact, therefore he constantly puts himself in an adversarial position.

I agree with you on this.

Again, I get the point Perrault was driving at -- and it was a good point.

However, he tried to make his point in a confrontational matter, like he always does.

No, no they wouldn't. A lot of people on this board think it would be so obvious if anyone was using coke. DJK wasn't a crackhead, he wasn't showing up stoned out of his mind all the time. I know people who do coke who live highly productive lives and if you met them, you would never have any idea about their drug habits. DJK was 1st team All B10 this past season, his drug use wasn't affecting his play, so unless Stanzi was hanging out with DJK a lot on the weekends, and it doesn't sound like they do, I wouldn't expect him to know.

I'd expect players who know to go to the team captains, the fact that this didn't happen here, or if it happened at other schools, indicates a problem on the team which doesn't go away just because djk goes away.

I don't know any coke heads nor have I been around them. But I do have two friends on the Iowa football team. One starts and one is a reserve. It is common knowledge on the football team and in Iowa City that DJK was a coke head. He never tried to hide it nor was anyone on the team surprised (other than Saint Kirk) when he got busted.

Apparently he only gets information from reading the papers you know, poor guy.

Yeah, Rob explodes the moment that question is asked. He really sounds like he wanted to say, "Yes, it all goes away with the press conference."

Matt isn't usually defensible, and nobody comes off real defensible here, but Rob was looking for a fight.

I just heard the entire thing and Rob started the conversation with a very big chip on his shoulder. I don't have a problem with Matt asking the question. Rob was hauling the company line. It was Rob twisting the information around, Matt said Stanzi "should've known" what was going on with DJK.

If this was common knowledge, then this would have been put out years ago. Way to act like you are in a knowledgeable circle though.

This.

Watch any number of the post game interviews with DJK on Youtube, watch any other interviews with him, listen to members of the media who've talked to him, and I don't think anybody knew DJK's drug issues until his arrest. He was a bit egotistical, a bit arrogant, sure, but nothing about his behavior screamed drug user. People weren't saying "Hey, I think that guy does cocaine, pot and pops pills" during the season. I don't believe that people looking at him from day to day would have just 'known' about DJK's drug problem.

However, if there's evidence that strongly linked DJK and his teammates hung out together a lot, etc, then perhaps you could question whether any of them knew about his off-field extracurricular activities. But even then, throwing out specific names on air without any concrete evidence would be irresponsible.

Not to really defend cyclonepb, but I knew kids in high school that were using drugs. I didn't say a word to the authorities -- and I didn't even like some of those kids.

cyclonepb could be right -- and he could be all wet. I just think your argument of "well if this was common knowledge it would have been put out years ago" is a little weak as well.

And eventually it did come out, so someone must have known.

Yeah, apparently there were large amounts of Cyclone fans that knew this but were just trying to protect DJK and didn't want to damage his reputation.

Go ahead and call me out. That's fine. But this is the first and now only thing I've posted about the situation of all the truths and rumors I've heard, which it is hard to decipher the two.
