Rob Howe just destroyed the KXNO

Yeah, Rob explodes the moment that question is asked. He really sounds like he wanted to say, "Yes, it all goes away with the press conference."

Matt isn't usually defensible, and nobody comes off real defensible here, but Rob was looking for a fight.

Between Matt's tweets (and retweets) and his comments before and after the press conference, Howe should have went in there looking for a fight. I'd rather him pick a different battle to plant his flag, but it needed to be done.

Go ahead and call me out. That's fine. But this is the first and now only thing I've posted about the situation of all the truths and rumors I've heard, which it is hard to decipher the two.

I'm sure many people knew of this problem. They are called users.

This.

Watch any number of the post game interviews with DJK on Youtube, watch any other interviews with him, listen to members of the media who've talked to him, and I don't think anybody knew DJK's drug issues until his arrest. He was a bit egotistical, a bit arrogant, sure, but nothing about his behavior screamed drug user. People weren't saying "Hey, I think that guy does cocaine, pot and pops pills" during the season. I don't believe that people looking at him from day to day would have just 'known' about DJK's drug problem.

However, if there's evidence that strongly linked DJK and his teammates hung out together a lot, etc, then perhaps you could question whether any of them knew about his off-field extracurricular activities. But even then, throwing out specific names on air without any concrete evidence would be irresponsible.

I had a guy I worked with who was a functional alcoholic. Each lunch hour, I don't know what he would drink, but it was something. He did that for at least two years until he was eventually discovered and was sent to treatment.

Another co-worker was in disbelief when he left for treatment. She had no idea that this guy was taking a snort or two over lunch -- and she had more interaction with the guy then I did.

I wouldn't expect "every" player on the Hawkeye team to know DJK was smoking dope and using other drugs. Do I believe some of them knew it? Yep. Can I prove it? Nope.

This is pretty much where I stand. I'm not saying nobody on the team, or in the public knew. However, I can't prove either way, therefore, I'm not going to on air and make a statement either way. Most certainly am not going to name drop certain people.

I agree. This needs to be looked at as a whole and not just the on air portion.

:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

This DJK thing must have thrown the Hawk fans for a loop. They are off their game. First, a Hawk lover falls apart during a radio interview. And then this. Normally, these lame attempts to steer the conversation to other topics and deflect scrutiny from the Hawks would have happened within the first page of posts, not 12 pages in...

In case you didn't read the post I was responding too, a Cyclone fan is the one who brought up the Big 12/conference realignment, not me.

You underestimate how bad being out of a BCS conference would be to Iowa State University. Lots of people stood to lose their jobs, the University would lose a lot of money, affecting the quality of education they could provide. Spreading rumors about that kind of thing is every bit as bad as saying someone knew someone else was doing drugs.

But what affect does that have on a person's reputation? Nothing. Yes, it's stressful for the schools employees, I get that. But they aren't going to get labeled as drug users. And at the time, it definitely looked like ISU was going to end up with the short end of the stick, along with Kansas, KSU, Baylor, and Texas Tech. That was the general attitude here as well.

I disagree with this 100%. Who was saying doom and gloom for these teams? It was all a Twitter/message board/radio rumor. Find one piece of evidence where ISU was banished to a lesser conference from someone that would actually have factual evidence. Just because it felt close to happening because of Twitter mongers like Orangeblood doesn't make it so.

That's how it all started, and ESPN picked it up and ran with it. There weren't too many people here that were saying "It's all BS, it's not going to happen." And the ones that did were looked upon as delusional. That's all I was really trying to get at.
