Rob Howe just destroyed the KXNO

See, I'm more willing to give a pass on this. What is the University supposed to do? Are they supposed to run background checks on all roommates, girlfriends, friends, associates, family members, etc. for all players? That seems a little excessive.

Ferentz is making $3.5 million per season. If he can't control 125 student athletes or at least delegate responsibility for them, he needs to step down now. He came off so obtuse and ignorant towards questions about his players.

I love it when he says he will never talk to Rob again publicly or privately.

I always find it humorous when men take that approach. Such a chick move. Most arguments I get into with other guys are resolved within an hour or two.

Matt was his regular self, Howe overreacted. Matt had a very good general point of "some players had to know" but it was ill advised to use a specific player like Stanzi as an example, others online were wrongly doing the same thing about McNutt.

Howe came off like an A-hole.

The only time I really disliked MP was the way he laughed about the Hoiberg hiring. It was pretty transparent that he was jealous and nervous. Who knows how it will turn out long term, it's already an absolute fact that Hoiberg is a better coach and recruiter for ISU than his Creighton coach was. Sour grapes from day one on that.

Also when Walters went off on MP, it was about being professional. He said Matt needed to act like an adult before he'd talk. When that was straightened out then Walters handled himself well. He certainly handled himself better in the exchange than Howe.

Okay, but after the whole Pierre Pierce debacle they were supposed to be sooo much more involved in their athletes well being.

So yes, I have a hard time believing it was never brought to KF's attention, another coaches attention or that there wasnt another player who didn't know. It's a very very reasonable question to have and also to doubt "no one knew". So yes, Giggles had a valid question and Rob wanted none of it. (homer response)

I'm sure other players knew, but how can you be so certain that players would tell their coaches about it? DJK was a senior. A leader on the team. He was having his best season as a player, setting himself up for a chance to be drafted. Now imagine you are a fellow player with knowledge of the situation. This is your teammate. You've been coached to rely on each other and trust each other. He's a star player. Isn't it possible that you don't want to be the guy that rats on him? The guy who potentially messes up his career? Especially when he appears to have a handle on things?

sorry guy, there are drug problems in every college athletic department in the country in one form or another. Iowa is not unique. You want coaches to do their best to be aware of problems, but short of appointing 24 hour babysitters, things are going to slip by.

It is really a tough call. You can see it either way.

If nobody tried to help him, you could say one of his teammates could have saved his career if they approached him and/or the staff about his decisions.

He could still have an NFL career, if not for this whole mess I think he gets a shot with a team for sure though. Some day DJK could be sitting around wishing someone had helped him when he didn't have the strength or presence of mind to help himself.

that's what i'm saying. You'd hope that someone would come forward and talk to the coaches, but it's a long ways from a guarantee that someone would.

You guys are naive if you think he won't still have a nfl career. It might start out a little slower but it will still happen.

I think he'll get a chance somehow still.

Even if he was a model citizen he's not talented enough to automatically have an NFL career. There are loads of guys in the NFL with DJK speed. He doesn't have the strength and height to automatically catch on with somebody.

Howe's response: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=8&f=1376&t=6892540

To me it seems like Matt P and Howe are acting like a high school girls trying to see who can get more people on their side...

Howe was right about Ken Miller - no guts at all. He just melts away whenever Perrault gets out of hand, afraid to do anything. Hope Santa brings you some courage for Christmas, Ken.

Are they supposed to run background checks on all roommates, girlfriends, friends, associates, family members, etc. for all players? That seems a little excessive. It might be reasonable to inquire about some of those things if a player is showing signs of drug abuse, or if the team has reason to think something is wrong. Now, depending on what you believe caused DJK to lose his starter status for the Minnesota game, those signs may have been there, in which case I agree, the team probably should have checked into it. But, expecting them to keep tabs on all associates is asking way too much. And, if they did, what player is going to want to play for a team that would scrutinize their lives to that degree?

I don't think that they need to go down the list to girlfriends and associates, but I DO think that big-time schools should know who their players are living with and if they have a criminal record. That's not too difficult...especially when most live with other athletes. This is something an intern can do and could save programs a lot of grief. I hope that ISU learns from iowa's mistakes here. It wouldn't be too hard to ask players for a list of their roomates' names and check them out.

I listened to it. Matt asked a legitimate question and Howe got huffy then it escalated. Matt probably needs to learn to not **** everyone off but today, I actually thought he was in the right on that one specific question. Howe sounded like he had some problems with Matt previous to all this (possibly well justified) and that just broke the camels back. Both guys lost it.

Great radio though.

I'm disappointed in the co-host with whom I didn't quarrel with today. He I considered a friend. That's why I did the show for several years without any compensation. Oh well, you live and learn.

What a moron. The free publicity and free advertising is essentially lost because he lost his cool. I'm not sure what fantasy land he lives in where guests get paid.

Had to reactivate this account to comment, lol. I really enjoyed the first caller - Tim in West Des Moines - saying Giggles puts himself above the callers. The most annoying thing he does is how he interrupts everyone.

Someone said Ken was on the sideline, not getting involved, and insulted him about it but he is the bright spot on the program.
