It's nothing to do with 'butt hurt', it's everything to do with looking through the most basic of coach speak. What do you think Fred is going to say? "Hopefully we make the playoffs!"? It's realistic to think that the Bulls might be staring down that lower Eastern Conference playoff purgatory range where they are good enough to get a first round beatdown but not bad enough to bring in actual talent in the draft.

I watch the NBA. I think saying the Bulls can't COMPETE for a title is a classic overreaction that we typically see when a team loses during the postseason.

They still play in the east and only have to beat 1 team (Cavs) to get to the NBA finals. If you are in the finals, aren't you competing for a title?

People forget that the Bulls were a Lebron game winner away from going up 3-1 in that series. Pau Gasol was hurt (so was Kevin Love obviously) which didn't help.

Well they're paying max money to a guy who has went from an MVP to a high volume, low percentage jump shooter and who is lucky to play in 3/4 of his teams games. They're paying $14M to a guy who teams flat out ignore on the offensive end and can no longer defend at an elite level. They're one of the oldest teams in the league with a lot of miles on them especially their frontcourt, and they're capped out. Other than that, they're in great shape!
 
I love Fred and wish him the best. But I think we all know that he will end up losing to Lebron year after year just like Thibodeau. If the Bulls weren't happy with Thibodeau and his 65% winning percentage, how will they react when Hoiberg struggles?

Well it wasn't LeBron who knocked them out last year, it was Randy Whitman and his merry bunch of Wizards. If they couldn't get by the Cavs who were without Love, without JR Smith for two games, with a banged up Kyrie, with LeBron struggling, well the team as constructed is not going to get past him.

I wrote this earlier:

I see this a lot....and I have to ask, is it just everyone's dream to win the Eastern Conf. Championship? I always see, "it's easy to get to the finals in the east", "the path is so easy to the finals in the east"...I never see anything about actually winning the NBA Championship.

Judging by what Fred did for PG's at ISU (DG, Lucious, Kane, & Morris) I am going to guess you will see a big time bounce back from Rose. Health permitting.

It's the eastern conference, it's Chicago (players will come), and it's the eastern conference.

The Pacers with recovered Paul George will be just as good as the Bulls as well

Aren't NBA championships since 2005 something like 6 west, 5 east?
 
Watched/listened to it. Couldn't be happier for the guy even though I really really want him in Ames. With that being said, it's obvious that reality hasn't set in on him 100% yet. He is still talking as if he's ISU's coach.

Did that Bulls team have Gasol or Rose?

This Bulls team couldn't score. It was even worse when Gasol got hurt in that series. They will score under Fred. I'm not saying they will beat the Cavs next year, but they absolutely can compete for a title. They weren't that far off from competing this year.

As well...there's the whole situation with the front office thinking that part of the problem was the leadership of the team, which *ahem* kind of led to this whole deal.

Players will come? What does that mean? Chicago hasn't been able to land elite free agents when they had money, now they're going to get them to come when they don't have any cap room? The East is also going to be better, possibly significantly better next year. Milwaukee and Indy will have Parker and George back, Miami will have Bosh back plus Dragic for a full year.

And Kyrie Irving was hurt. And JR Smith was suspended the first two games.

Right now, would you really put the Bulls roster over that of the Hawks and the Wizards? I sure wouldn't. Hell, you could make an argument for the Bucks surpassing them in a couple years. I was a Bulls fan for a long, long time until about a couple weeks ago and while being a strong supporter even I had come to grips that the window on this version of the Bulls closed shut when Rose's knees gave out. While the Bulls may still spend the next year or two near the upper echelon of the East in the standings, they don't have the horses to be considered one of the 3 or 4 teams that have an actual shot at winning the championship each year.

They are in NBA purgatory right now. Good enough to not blow the entire thing up quite yet and start bringing in young talent, bad enough to not stand a chance at actually winning the championship. I'm sure the city of Chicago will be completely supportive of this situation as they have always shown to be in the past.

I don't know. If you're right then even more odd that NBA people never mention the bullz actually winning the title. They just always say, "Oh they're in the Eastern conference they have an easy road to the finals" and "The East is where you want to coach because the eastern conference isn't as strong as the west"

They haven't? Pau Gasol and Nikola Mitotic both signed as free agents last year.

Where is a guy like Pau Gasol more likely to go as a free agent, Milwaukee or Chicago?
 
I'm guessing Fred made sure he will have a fair say in roster moves in the future. The bulls have a great young player in jimmy butler but he's gonna want max money for his new contract and I'm not sure the bulls can pay him. The core of that team is gonna need a revamp soon. Even with Fred being a great coach, I will be shocked if he can get them farther than Thibbs. People are down on the east, but there is a lot of young talent. Teams like the wizards and pelicans and bucks are going to keep getting better while the bulls get older.

Mirotic was drafted by the Bulls he wasn't a free agent. And a 34 year old Gasol is not exactly an elite free agent, there wasn't much of a bidding war from him.

D-Wade is going to opt out! Seriously... the Bulls do an excellent job of existing, showing their money and getting guys paid in other cities. After the Bulls max out Jimmy Butler they will have an ungodly amount of money tied up 2 guards. Oh and reports are they don't really care for each other.

As a Bulls fan I want Fred to hang NBA Championship banners but the Bulls are a prime example of a team stuck in "NBA Hell."
