Tonights movie: If you have a chance to watch the French movie Amour, maybe you should or maybe should not. Award winning, really great acting but too real and maybe too depressing depending on how you take it. Octogenarians dealing with strokes and end of life stuff hit maybe a little too close to home for me.

Student health center= Student death center.

Back in the day they actually had hospital beds and strange doctors with heavy foreign accents, think female versions of Kruger from Archer. Dr. Furman, I am pretty sure she was a Nazi doctor in WWII. Got death flu and ended up overnight there for a couple nights. Temp was over 104 and roomies took delirious Boxster there in the middle of the night. I may have died, don't remember for sure.

This was the physical therapy group though. Nice guys but definitely understaffed and some students learning in there.

We had to walk from our HS to the FB field when I was a FES. We had to cross RR tracks, and occasionally trains would be sitting there. One time while crossing across them (grain carts) we heard the air brakes either set or release. Unsure which it was I paused while clinging on the ladder. Thankfully they were setting the brakes or else a long ride in FB cleats and gear would not have been fun.

I found student health to be fine when I was a student but they weren't nearly as overwhelmed as they are now trying to meet the needs of 36,000 students. They did a good job treating some burns I got when roommate dropped a hot oil popcorn popper on my arm. Also accurately diagnosed my mono. Son went to them once and they took care of his strep throat and gave him antibiotics that were suitable given his allergies to some. Despite all of the controversy about them when he was a student, he said the wait there was less than it usually is at our family doctor.

Student health center= Student death center.

It was always referred to as Student Death when I was there.
It was more of an oft repeated joke than anything, similar to the whole "roommate-dies-you-get-a-4.0" myth.

Sometimes someone would double down and combine the two.

Rev, At first I was going to give you a like for the fun Easter Z post, but then a read the part about your Grandma and didn't think that would be right. So Thanks for the fun Z post and I hope you Grandma heals up well, after her set back.

Gr8, only train story I have from my time in Ames is the one time I hopped a train right behind Grandaddy's and hopped off to get to the bars on Main street. It's kind of amazing how fast they pick up speed:rolleyes:.
I used to hop them all the time downtown. My uncle hopped freights and traveled all over the place growing up. He used to tell us stories of doing that back when he was young. Today with cameras everywhere you could never get away with it. I always wished I had taken a trip that way when I was young. Just hop on and let it take me wherever it was going.

Been watching the series about WW I on public television.

Making me sad and depressed. But I keep watching. A period of history I don't know that well.

And no I'm not that old. Even my parents weren't born then.

the American Experience one? The more I watched, the more I realized some things never change.

Sounds like RTT has a bunch of hobos. I can't get away from them even in here!!

Last night's JH track meet had some JV type events. These are all small schools. I think if my kid can't run a regular event in JH where they have more events then kids, I might tell them it's not their thing.

That's the one. And yes, the parallels are scary. The part with the black soldiers coming home made me cry.

God, that was horrible. Wilson saying they couldn't do anything to protect those being murdered but yet when the tables turned, they sent in troops to "put down" the "negro uprising". It was a good reminder that racism wasn't just separate water fountains and the back of the bus. We'd be smart to not forget just how awful things were not too far in the past.

Went to bed somewhat early last night because Tuesday's are 5am wake up. I get up, get oldest up, and of course first thing she does is look at her phone (it stays in the kitchen overnight). She got a text right after she went to bed that catching was cancelled this morning so we got up for nothing. She went back to bed. I am trying to get by with more caffeine. I don't do early mornings. ;)

Winner. :D

Got a doctor's appointment at 7am tomorrow. 98% sure I have shingles.

We were talking about shingles last night because a girl in my daughter's 8th grade class has chicken pox. My sister mentioned how that would not be fun. I reminded her I had shingles in middle school. THAT was not fun.

Really hope not. I have never had them but sister somehow has had them twice. Good luck.
Sunday night I started having some muscle pain in my back. Monday I saw a rash on my back and side and of course today it is worse. You can't sleep well because it hurts to lie down. A lot of body aches. I'll see what the doc says tomorrow.

I hope this clears up within the 2-4 weeks as I have to drive out to Virginia on May 20. My mom is having a kidney removed and my older brother, sister and I are taking turns being with her during her recovery.

Well wishes to you. Definitely not an opportune time for you.

I think about a month is the longest it goes and if you go to the doctor sooner, you may heal faster. My sister had a terrible time sleeping. Hope you don't get them near your eyes. I have wondered about getting the shot, but I'm not really old enough yet. Sister is 61 but first time she got shingles she was in lower 50's. I think in her case, stress was a factor in getting them, she's wound pretty tightly.

GR8, hope it's something other than shingles. Good luck both with your health and your mom's.

I'm powering through the last batch of returns on Taxnado Day. Looking like I'll be done before midnight this year, so at least I've got that going for me.

Free advice: If you ask me to do your return for free because I am your friend, don't bring in the proverbial shoe box, have 6 different states in the mix with 3 different states of domicile during the year, and culminating in year-end residence in a fricking community property state while insisting on filing Married Filing Separate. Not really all that difficult, but a tedious pain in the ass.

Back at it.
