***OFFICIAL BIG 12 EXPANSION THREAD 2.0***

Seriously? 4 teams have left. Texas would have been gone had another conference allowed the LHN. OU had one foot out the door. I would say that is a pretty good 'real life indicator'.

FWIW, I hope that the Big 12 survives in it's current form. Heck, if I have my choice, the original Big 8 would have survived. I'm not wrapped up in rumors or conspiracy, it's just my opinion that in this day and age of college sports, if you aren't growing, you are dying. I could very well be wrong, and I hope I am.

That was all in the past.

You don't sell your TV rights away for more than a decade if you aren't on the same page as everyone else. To do so would be INSANELY stupid.

The thread is below, apparently Kevin Harlan and some Indiana Scout guy has reported it...

Scout.com: Big 10 unite

Read through that thread and it becomes hard to distinguish between these clowns and the Missouri Tigers who Jayhawks had claimed were whoring themselves for a Big 10 bid.

Beakers are a pretentious lot, so they would fit in with the Big Ten that way, but it bugs me that so many of the old Big 8 teams would rather be someplace else.

You could be right but I am more inclined to go with the Neinas led valuation than yours.

I think you are taking his comments too literally. I would imagine he was taking about Lousiville, BYU, Tulane, Colorado St and other teams that were being discussed at tha time for B12 expansion.

He obviously wasn't speaking for all college programs because certainly the SEC, B1G, Pac12 and ACC have teams that would add value

I was looking for just the right pic but couldn't find it.

KU fans seems to be giddy because they seem to be seeing a lot of smoke to the UNC and KU to the Big 10 Rumors...
Wouldn't they have to take KState with them? I thought that was a rule that the Kansas schools had to stay together. Even the big ten wouldn't be that stupid. If they didn't want us bc the Iowa market was covered TV wise, there's no way they would take both kansas schools.

Exactly. There is no way that FSU joining the Big12 adds zero value to the TV contract.

This article makes it sound like Big 12 won't be expanding anytime soon and that the Big 12 is happy about it:

Why the Big 12 is happy with 10 amid the latest round of realignment - CBSSports.com

Hadn't read that thanks for posting. Reflects my thoughts on the situation. If the schools in the Big 12 are pulling in $20mil+ and soon $30mil plus what is going to be more attractive about other conferences?

Other than trying to get away from the 9-game conference schedule which will be a moot point if the playoff committee values SOS and quality wins a la the NCAA Basketball Tournament selection committee (and power schools seem to think this will be the case based on their scheduling changes)

In one of the previous rounds of expansion, there was a quote by one of the university officials that they would like to stay together, but that there were no laws or rules to force it. It was in an interview in the Kansas City Star. I used to have it bookmarked, but not sure I have it anymore.

I think some people are placing too much weight on the contract/GOR in keeping the conference together. I'm not saying KU will leave or even has an option to do so, but these things are broken all of the time

Looks like C-USA has found their replacements for Tulane and E Carolina.

Middle Tennessee State, Florida Atlantic to join Conference USA - CBSSports.com

That means C-USA will lose
-C Florida
-Memphis
-Houston
-SMU
-Tulane
-E Carolina

Mt West will lose
-Boise
-San Diego State

And C-USA will reload with
-Middle Tennessee State
-Florida Atlantic
-Florida International
-North Texas
-LA Tech
-UNC-Charlotte (adding FB in 2015)
-Old Dominion
-Texas San-Antonio

Please show me where a grant of rights has been broken successfully. TIA

Why would anyone want to leave the Big 12 for the B1G at this point? I wouldn't really say that it has improved life for Nebraska. As a matter of fact, with the exception of aTm, all of the Big 12 defectors seem to be having a tough time in their new surroundings.

Nebraska is doing just fine.

I agree with you on buy-out penalties. Recent history has shown they don't end up being as high as set forth. For the GOR, you might be right. Can you provide an instance? I don't know of a case when a team left a conference and broke its GOR. If no one has broken it, then how can we say there is too much weight put on it?

What team can forsake its Tier 1&2 TV revenue for any extended period of time? What conference wants to put a team on its payroll that isn't generating any revenue for that conference? One more mouth to feed with nothing in return?? Possible, yes. Probable?
