***OFFICIAL BIG 12 EXPANSION THREAD 2.0***

I like Ten teams and the round robin. I said IF we were to expand I said UL only because geography wise it worked. I like where we are at, but if the networks say hey big twelve better get to 12,14,16 then we will only if they add value. I agree with the article we are sitting pretty.

If ku really wants to leave I think the b12 would assign them their tv rights back. We could get bring in a acc team that adds MUCH more value than ku.

So why would the Big 12 give KU's rights back? Yes we could add a school that brings much more value, but why throw away the additional money that KU would generate for each Big 12 school while competing in another conference?

Oh for ****** sakes KU is not going anywhere.

Exactly. Remember, during the last couple rounds of this crap where there were lots of scenarios being laid out that resulted in the collapse of the Big 12, KU was often one of the schools left behind with ISU, KSU, and Baylor.

This is about football and television sets, and KU provides neither.

Exactly. There is no way that FSU joining the Big12 adds zero value to the TV contract.
One team has to add at least $150 million over the GOR just for the existing ten to break even. More likely around $300M if each existing school is getting $30M per year in 2014 as predicted. Not many schools will do that. Notre Dame likely would but not FSU.

Should be at least 10-11 years of relative peace for the B12. Or at least chaos on our terms. When we have 2-3 years left, it might be more tempting for a conference to poach a team. Any more than that, and I can't see it... $30mil/year x 4 years = too expensive to leave.

Which apparently is long-term planning to Al. The old Big 12 thought its long-term plan of not having revenue sharing and a GoR to keep NU and UT happy was okay back in 2000.
Unless a la carte cable occurs in the next 10 years, the Big 12 staying at 10 is nothing but a short-term plan.

Because clemson or fsu is a major upgrade over ku. Why keep a team in the b12 that wants to leave and has little to no value?

Hey, we're only 27 posts away from 1,000...

...the Megathread lives!!!

GOR notwithstanding, the Big 10 offers Kansas a (slightly) better payday, easier geography, and weaker competition.

With the GOR, trying to leave the Big 12 for the Big 10 is insane.

Plus, when you look at how the Big 10 and Pac 12 have GORs, it seems really, really stupid for them to try to break one up. Delaney has proven to be a lot of bad things, but stupid isn't one of them. Furthermore, the large bowl alliances that exist between the Big 10/Pac 12 and Big 12/SEC say a lot to me. Or, I should say the fact that the ACC doesn't have a partner at that dance says more.

Seems to me OU and KU have nothing to ***** about since they have perennial champions.

Sounds a lot like Delaney in the months leading up to the addition of Nebraska.

Yep, **** is going down. The ACC taking L'ville told me everything I needed to know. Either the Big XII is really content at 10 or they have a real good idea on how they get to 12 or 14. My money is on the latter.

Is the Big 12 the conference who have read the tea leaves correctly and are set up for the best long term success? The Dennis Dodd column reads that way.

It seems the argument goes like this: the new college football playoff will choose participants based upon quality wins and strength of schedule. Since the Big 12 routinely plays the toughest schedules top to bottom, they are uniquely qualified to benefit from the new playoff format. Other leagues that weaken their conferences by adding "markets" also undercut their playoff potential.

But do we know for certain that the 8 team playoff will choose primarily based upon quality wins and strength of schedule? Does one really think a SEC or B1G team that is 11-1 with a SOS of around 40 gets dumped in favor of a 10-2 or 9-3 team from the Big XII with a SOS of 6 or above? I think the selection committee will be under huge pressure to include the B1G and SEC team in that scenario. As long as there is a human component, as we have seen with the BCS polls, we can expect some favoritism to be played.

I think the Big XII is gambling that the playoff will reward them exclusively for playing their tough round robin, and once we shift to that dynamic the mega-SEC/B1G will be exposed and fall apart. I am not convinced.

I think since the big ten has their own network they need more money/tv sets reason they expanded. Lets be honest here other than 3-4 teams in that conference does anyone really care? Must feed the monster right? Super conference is where this might be all heading to, but in the end I think it will create so many problems. Everyone in the big twelve should be happy with where we are today.

I really do not want conferences to just disappear and have schools running around like a chicken with its head cut off to find a new hopefully stable home. I guess that is the world we live in, but I also want what is best for Iowa State so its a double edge sword.

Continuing the thought exercise:

If the playoff shakes out that way, then the new and improved B1G will ultimately have to divide into the "football" B1G and the B1GINO (B1G In Name Only) so that the MD, IN, IL weak links with few quality wins do not affect the potential for the conference to win big money by placing a couple teams in the playoff.

Maybe this is what Delaney is up to. Building a major and minor league B1G?

You want to know where the money is? It's not worrying about who the number 1 team in the country is....How many people does that pull in? 2 fanbases? 4? There is a reason we have these bowl games...so that there's 60 teams involved in the post season. This isn't entirely relevant to the line of conversation here but that's why you won't see a 7 win requirement on bowls unless they add games to everyone's schedule. Too much money left out there.
