***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Taillon:

Low leverage situations: In 226 ABs, 7 homeruns have been given up

High leverage situations: In 62 ABs, 8 homeruns have been given up

I've been a supporter of Taillon but holy ****, if there is definitively a guy I don't want taking a shot with the game on the line, it is him.

Man, if it isn’t for their left fielder dropping a pop up, we would’ve just got swept by the worst team in the NL lol

Those **** around games in July and August looking more and more like we shouldn’t have ****** around

Was afraid this was going to happen with all the guys we left on base in the first 3 innings. Should have been up 6-0 and not 3-0.

Would like to see the replay on Harris not sending baserunner in 8th. Its the safe move, but gotta believe a runner has better chance to score than .250 hitter. Realize the Cubs were hoping for a big inning, but sometimes just need to settle for 1.

Lost 5 of the last 7. Hopefully we can get right with the day off and go into the final 2 weeks with some momentum.

Stro's back. I'd move Hendricks back to Sunday and use Stroman as an opener for Assad Saturday. Only realistic chance we have to advance in the playoffs (if we get there) is Stroman back as a starter. If he can throw 40-50 this weekend he could be at 80+ by the end of the regular season. Plus him and Assad pairing down the stretch would basically build in a day off for the rest of the pen every 5 days.

Why Assad? He's a great long reliever and that should be his playoff role.

I would assume he'll come out of the Bullpen for a bit before he starts again.

I think you're wrong.

Just because you read that or hear MS say he'd do it doesn't make it the right move. Assad won't be starting in the playoffs. He won't start in the first round even if Stroman can't return. If Stroman can't start in the 1st round we have basically no chance of advancing.

Strohman will definitely start in the playoffs if the Cubs get there, but I don't think he will be starting anytime this weekend. My guess is they will try to get him 2 starts before the playoffs, so you'll see him throw out of the bullpen this weekend and early into next week to get him up to speed/stretched out. Then give him a start next Sunday at home against the Rockies, and again Friday the 29th against the Brewers. That would set him up for a start in Game 2 of the Wild Card series on October 4.

Far better to let him prepare as an opener then work up to full time starter. Let's him go through a regular routine instead of warming up.

BN said they would likely put him on a 5 day schedule so he might as well open/start.

I swear to God if the Cubs **** up getting at least a wild card this late into the season I’m going to scream

Hopefully we're both right. He threw a strong 30 last night. Would hope for 40-50 next time out. It would be hard to plan that out of the pen.

In the 8th he was doing a mini stretch/flex with his left shoulder. Hope that isn't a problem. Probably not since the trainer didn't come out.
