***Official 2021 Vikings***

This is QUITE juicy!!

Second round pick and Baker for Cousins? Thoughts? Personally I would want a first. But there is no way someone pays a 1 for Cousins

Not sure I want Baker as Jefferson didn't seem to be his biggest fan with the "Free Odell" shirts when OBJ was in Cleveland. But, that could've been about Stefanski too

Hard pass on Mayfield. If they do trade Cousins for Mayfield, I hope they dump Mayfield after the season and get serious about a good QB.

Doubt we see Baker in purple, but the good thing is that with KAM, he's seen him up close and knows if Mayfield is a hard pass or not.

Anybody willing to take that albatross of a contract is good in my book.
Not to take on a better cap number for a much less effective QB.

If you dump cousins then it needs to be a cap, clearing, tanking fire sale to revamp the roster, particularly the bottom 3 defense paid like a top 10 defense.

There just can't be any in-between. If you are going to try to win next year, then you might as well just keep Cousins, tweak where you can on the OL and on defense and see what happens. If you can offload Cousins and get some decent return for it, then you need to start gutting the roster, particularly on the over-priced, past their prime, underperforming defense.

It would be classic Vikings to make enough roster moves to slightly help the cap, get a serviceable (but not good QB) to keep living in the 6-9 win purgatory.

I'm a lot more concerned about how the offense plays by swapping out PFFs 9th rated QB with their 24th rated QB.

Agree we need to get out of .500 purgatory, but I'm not worried about next year but long term. Let Cousins play out his contract or if you can trade him for picks, do it. The only expensive QB out there worth the money is Watson, but that is not happening either.

How hard would it be to move on from Baker if he sucks here?

I would definitely take a 2nd and Baker for Cousins. Baker didn't have a very good year, but he doesn't irritate nearly as much as Cousins does. He can at least feel pressure, tries to avoid it, doesn't constantly fumble, and seems like a better leader. Yeah, he's going to throw more picks and ground balls, but you at least feel like you've got a chance.

He is in his 5th year option of his rookie contract. $18.9M cap hit. Cousins carries a $45M cap hit (Cut or plays in Minnesota). $10M of that staying with Minnesota even in a trade. So Baker would "carry" a $29M cap hit if you want to think of it that way

Maybe it is better to take Mayfield... the team will suck even worse and the Vikings can get a higher draft pick in 2023.

Of those four, I'd take O'Connell. But I think KAM will end up with Ryans.
A little surprised that Bienemy is not on many HC lists.

Word in KC is that it's pretty assumed he will take over for Reid as HC when he's done...which might not be very far off. Bienemy is literally not on any OFFICIAL interview lists which screams 'he's not interviewing anywhere, don't ask'.

Jefferson gets a say in all personnal decisions in my book until a franchise QB is there. He is the face of the franchise and a Top 5 WR in the game

If you want to tank then you just trade Cousins and play a season with Kellen Mond.
This is correct, but I feel we still have the talent to make a run next year if we can get solid coaching. Keep cousins one more year and see what happens.

I would love to see the reaction of a good friend of mine who bleeds purple if the Vikings ever trotted Baker Mayfield out at QB. He would probably denounce his fandom and burn every piece of Vikings apparel he has. He has an irrational hatred of Cousins, but what he feels for Baker is on a whole deeper level. He has taken an almost unhealthy delight in watching Baker's regression on the field in recent years. So if nothing else, I would be amused to watch him react to Baker wearing purple.
