I'm not 100% sure on this part, but I think it's because it hasn't always been called the Stanley Cup Final, but that's what the NHL calls it now.Huh I see that now, I guess I’m always use to reading Finals that I figured that was what it’s called.
But to be fair Wikipedia says both terms are accepted. In the end we are just arguing semantics.

I’m glad Vegas beat the Jets, but I gotta pull for Caps because T.J. Oshie is my favorite NHL player. No doubt Vegas would be a crazy good story though.
